Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. can british join the gurkhas if so are the any british that serve with the regiment

  2. Only officers I believe? But I could be wrong.

  3. Signals yes i know a lad whos the tallest in the unit by a clear foot

  4. No, you are correct.

Unless you are a British Gurkha of course such as if your Gurkha dad served then stayed on in britain.

  5.
  6. Aha! But there's a British officer out in Afghanistan who is by far and away the shortest in his gurkha unit. He's good at snowboarding - low centre of gravity.

  7. Not much call for that kind of thing in Afghan though, I'd wager...

  8. As a soldier you can volunteer to serve with gurkhas in R SIGNALS, RE, RLC, AGC and REME. Most posts will be specific to rank. Officers I suspect will have a wider ability to serve on attachment with the RGR depending on their current officer strength. R SIGNALS, RE and RLC officers can volunteer to serve with QGE, QOGLR and QG SIGNALS. Believe the RGR have usual AGC type posts (RAO and AGC Det Comd), and OC LAD. Believe some of their QM posts are also non gurkha - though I suspect this is likely to change post GTACOS.

They probably have an RMO and Dentist as well as other medical staff too.
