Black Dyke performance aids forces medical help charity

23 October 2008

National brass band champion Black Dyke is to perform in its home town of Bradford to help British servicemen and women wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Yorkshire band's performance at the Bingley Airedale Rotary Club annual concert on November 15 will boost funds for forces charity Help for Heroes.

Bingley Airedale Rotary Club president Sandy Cameron, who is a consultant physician at Leeds General Infirmary, said: "I've been extremely distressed to hear about the grossly inadequate medical help available for our servicemen and women. For example, until Help for Heroes formed a year ago, they didn't even have a swimming pool at their rehabilitation centre.

"The lives of many of these courageous men and women may not be the same again but they want and deserve to make them as normal as possible."

This year will be the 12th consecutive year that Black Dyke has appeared at the Rotary event. The Black Dyke Band, from Queensbury, has performed across the globe and was crowned Champion Band of Great Britain for the 21st time earlier this month.

The concert is at 7.30pm at Bradford Grammar School, Manningham Lane, Bradford. For tickets e-mail john.p.hagerty@btinternet.com
