Good CO said:Since ARRSE has been going for 7 years there's a good chance that any problem will have been addressed before, in this case many many times before. It's always worth looking at the help pages,e.g: http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/ARRSE_FAQ#My_PMs_are_stuck_in_the_Outbox and searching in this forum.
I have promised at some point to add a link to the help pages / 10 things to know in an introductory email or PM - still on the list. One day I'll get off my increasingly fat civvy ar5e and do it.
Also I should add a note to the outbox page. On the things to do.

When a message is sent an email is sent to the recipient (providing they have set it up) and tells the user that they have a new message in the top right hand corner of their screen. It stays in the outbox till the member logs in and reads it. That way you know that it has been read, if it went straight to sent you have no idea if the guy has received it or not, and whether they have read it and ignored you or just not logged in for a while. I have one that's been stuck in my outbox for a week but I haven't seen any activity form the fellow so conclude hes away and not plainly ignoring me like another chap I sent a message to on the same day
