PLCE + pecoc to be made in china!

#1
Just heard an [un-confirmed] rumour that the new contract to manufacture PLCE has been awarded to some Austrian company, who is goin to have it all made in China.

And, that development of pecoc is included in the contract award, anyone heard anything?
Gearspotter?

Doubt if currently there is actually the ability to make it locally and you would be hard pressed to actually find anywhere in the EU - I had to outsource manufacturing to China on some stuff I was having made a few years ago - there were no UK manufacturers after the one I was using went bust and I had to refuse delivery on poorly made stock.

There is nothing wrong with the stuff from China but you have to put your own quality inspectors into place on the production lines and oversee the quality process yourself. If they do that no problem - if not - well I'm sure the outrage bus will be ready to roll when the stuff falls apart after a month or so.

I would doubt that with import costs
When I was exporting stuff from China it was cheaper to send a containers from HK to Edinburgh than from London to Edinburgh.

Look at the PCS thread, it is made in China!
I've looked at the thread on my PCS and there is nothing about it jumped out at me as being especially Chinese. IIRC the bag it came in had a manufacturing label from a company in NI

I have a PM from Gearspotter, it states:

'all kit is printed and made in China.'

I actually find the idea of any of our equipment being made abroad abhorent!

We pay loads of people to be on the dole, so why not just build factories and train some people up to make the stuff we need? Get some scroungers off the dole.

Failing that there is a company called Remploy (Remploy Frontline | Home) that employ people with disabilities, who might not otherwise work at all. So why not just give more of this work to them?

I have had more than one septic tell me that if the gear is to be used by their armed forces (official issue) it has to be made in the USA - non negotiable. I do wonder how that holds up because I have seen some non made in USA kit with the military.

Do you specialise in 'home economics' perchance? There are some very good economics courses available if you wish to further your knowledge.

It has to be Berry Compliant which is quite a complicates set of rules which you can Google. All kit doesn't necessarily have to be made in the US.

Kangol had the contract to make US army berets.

They moved production from here in Cumbria to China & "forgot" to notify the Septics.
I guess the "Made in China" tags gave the game away & Kangol found themselves with a LOT of khaki berets on their hands & no future US DOD work due to breach of contract.
