Planetside 2

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi all,

Had an email from a friend recommending this PlanetSide 2 PC Game - Massive Combat on an Epic Scale.

Sci-fi FPS MMO on quite a grand scale. My friend played the first one some years back and totally raves about it. I believe this one will be free-to-play.

They're taking registrations for beta testing if you've interested .

I always fancied the first one when it first appeared, but the subscription model was gash so never tried it. If this one if F2P I'll give it a go. On a smaller, slightly less serious note my Steam page is telling me that Monday Night Combat comes out quite soon - another F2P shooter in the vein of Team Fortress 2. Keep an eye out, folks!
  3. I played Planetside to near addiction levels years ago, about when it first come out.

It was an absolute hoot to play, and indeed deserves the description of having epic battles. At its height it was a common event to have peak time conflicts with thousands of players all kicking off over a desired objective. It had a good class system where you could specialise in certain roles....I used to be an absolute bastard playing as a combat engineer and anti-aircraft.

Then they brought out a series of add-on packs that totally changed the game from mass infantry and armour in some crap version of stompy robots ( if you paid extra for them ) and left everyone without the DLC packs just acting as cannon fodder.

I will keep an eye out for this one.
  4. So is it going to be PC only, or are we likely to see it on XBox?
  5. Ah, if it's PC only it shows the designers intended it for users with class

Indeed; I doubt it will make it to a console. Thousands per side, or six per side... I wonder!
  7. Anybody in on the closed beta?

Yes, but not really had too much of a go. Nothing much in the way of introductions or tutorials that I could spot which made it very difficult to get into. Plus all the servers are on the wrong side of the Atlantic so it's laggy as **** for me.
  9. I've been playing in the closed beta for a while now.

There isn't an aweful lot I can criticise it for - except perhaps for the new continent which is so foggy that my Liberator is effectively grounded.

I don't understand some having issues getting into it without tutorial/manual - I found it extrememly easy to get into - fairly intuitive and straightforward although I guess understanding how certain certifications work in the game world is a bit hit and miss.

I love the look of PS2 - it really does look up to date and it plays as you'd hope an FPS would. You will need a semi-decent PC e.g. The minimum ram requirement is 4Gb I believe. And there are Euro servers available (at least there were last time I looked).

The secret to enjoying a truly epic gaming experience is to join a decent outfit. Teamwork and coordination appear to be vital factors when attempting to push the front line closer to the enemy warp gate.

Currently the game plays really well, looks and feels very polished and has bags of potential prior to going live before the end of the year (at least a Dec 31st launch has been guaranteed).

You can buy your way into the closed beta by purchasing the Alpha Squad package or else get around a current tester as we were all handed an extra key last week to give away. (Tough luck I'm afraid - Mine's already gone).

Definately recommend you try this out - many vs many combined arms battles in stunning surrroundings - Check out the Twitch channel belonging to BuzzCut of The Enclave who live streams most evenings.

Shooting and moving is fine, but joining and arranging squads - clearly vital to the game - aren't immediately obvious. I only got an hour on it so maybe I'll pick up more in time.

  11. Yeah - the first hour for me was "What the hell?"

You gradually pick up facets of it and it seems like there is some depth. As far as I'm aware there are three european servers. Bear in mind the servers don't run 24/7 - I think they come online at 1400 or 1500 and shut down again 0600 or later.

The scale of it is quite epic at times - was involved in a major base assault last night and it was great fun.

I'm on the eurydome server, New Conglomerate user name as here.
  12. Be playing this as well, Always had a soft spot for the if you see a toon called BaldBaBoon..

So... are we setting up an ARRSE Outfit now the game is on full release? I've gone Vanu to start (Nazis and hippies were the only other options - tech all the way!) but happy to switch it up if we can agree on a collective side.
  14. Started playing this today so not really getting the hang of it. Looks good though
  15. Good day to start. Triple station cash and double xp all the way through the Christmas holidays.

Which faction/server did you decide to go with BTW?

NC/Woodman here - but I had to follow my Outfit. I think I'd probably go gay and roll TR if it was up to me. The T9 CARV is probably the most OP default Heavy Assault LMG in game right now.
