Pikey Watch

never lived on a council estate, have you?

;)
I live in an ex council house, end terrace and to be fair it was great for about the last 20 years the tenants next door were a good family and we got on well.
Scroll on to now and they have moved on due to bereavement . Wayne and Waynetta have moved in with their tribe and somedays it takes all my resolve to not go and perform a personal "get your shit and fork off" personal eviction.
Honestly I do not understand why some people are like that, I just do not get it!

Today,Operation Tarmac, operated by the Criminal Assets Bureau, yielded a house, nine cars, a dozen watches and EU300 K in cash from one Patrick Coffey of Killarney, from the ill-gotten gains of "bogus home improvement schemes" which preyed on the elderly and vulnerable. Those cars won't be towing caravans any time soon. Sometimes, the good people win out.

My question is about the mentioned newspaper - The Traveller's Times or whatever it's called - who reads it?
It has a circulation of 25,000 but is only published twice a year. All sorts of useful information about the Appleby Horse Fair and exhortations to take the vaccine ( “Your questions answered !”) in the latest edition. No price tag so I suspect it’s free and published to show how caring someone is of these people of the road, travelling as they are, the highways and byways of Britain, happy and free of the shackles of civilised responsibility .

I went past there on a run - only once as I didn’t fancy making it a habit.

IIRC there was a sign at the entrance to the site saying ‘no fly tipping’ or similar. Weirdly in the area around the site there was significant amounts of crap.

My mate used to live in Prescot so I know the area.

Up and down the Pike Roads, of course.

"The Crown Prosecution Service said it received the case file that morning and "after careful review" could not prosecute for any offence due to a lack of evidence from police."

I see the Police have been as effective as ever.

That is disgraceful, but why did the church open its doors to the rabble in the first place?
Perhaps if those who say that the “Gypsy and traveller people experience stark inequalities“ had to cope with what normal civilised people experience when a horde of the scum pass through their area, they might have a better idea of why they are reviled.

I suspect that vaccine take-up amongst the pikey community is much below average.

The article from "Travellers Times" mentions, further into the article, that one of the many prejudices against these charming people is the significantly higher than average childhood mortality rate. The article doesn't mention oddly, the significantly below average inoculation rate against childhood diseases amongst the community. There is a significant link between the two.

If they won't vaccinate their kids I think it highly unlikely that they will vaccinate against covid, and living in cramped conditions as they do I suspect the infection and subsequent death rate will be high.

I predict mass caravan burnings and agro in pubs as they bury yet another "King of the Gypsies" in the near future.
I bet the inbreeding doesn't help

From the article

Laura Duffy, 20, of East Lancashire Road, Liverpool, admitted both charges and was fined £500.

She was also ordered to pay a £500 contribution to prosecution costs and received a two-year ban on dealing in dogs.

That will learn her

I saw a nice one from Spain yesterday: a news report of a young girl (way below the age of consent) sold by her parents to settle a EUR 3,500 debt.

As I was reading the article I was thinking "this sounds like something the Roma get up to" (along with slavery, breaking the legs and arms of their babies (for making more money when begging), stealing children, etc.).

Get to the last paragraph and sure enough: both parties were Roma. Roma child slavery

As an observation, remember reading 'Lord of the Flies' where the marooned kids end up destroying each other (a classic case of 'white guilt' of the author). In reality, when a group of schoolboys became marooned when their (stolen) boat sank in the Pacific, they looked after each other (even fixing a broken leg), built shelter and grew vegetables, etc., and were perfectly healthy and happy when found (after many months) by rescuers.

So what? So what is it about Roma culture that causes them to excel at living in misery and forcing that misery on any person unfortunate enough to be in their proximity?

The above sounds like Romanian Roma, a fair amount of Romanians seem to find Spain congenial (as do I to be fair) and some Roma have followed in their wake.
Travellers, Trad Brit Romany gypsies, Roma and Spanish Gitanos are all different groups which seem to be being deliberately conflated nowadays, possibly lazy journos, possibly simply that gits from within the Tinker/Knacker/Traveller community try to pass themselves off as anything, driveway specialists, trustworthy expert builders, dog or horse breeders, whatever. I'm sure they'd love to pretend they're Romany! It's all complete sh*te of course.
So I feel very sorry for old school actual Romanies getting tarred with the same brush as Pikies, completely undeserved from what I can see as the way the few Romanies there are nowadays leave their sites afterwards is beyond reproach.
I can't remember the word for what Gitanos are called but have been assured it's not the same as Romany or Roma and they are distinct, although a friend of Indian extraction swore blind the teenage Gitana waitress who served us had a VERY north Indian face (she seemed a bit freaked out by his staring and in return he got a stern eyeballing by her boss and his wife!)

I dont suppose there are more than 200 real Romany left in this country
I worked alongside a genuine Romany for some months in my apprenticeship , a genuine nice chap, with a great sense of humour and a real work ethic, I think David Essex might be of Romany stock, they certainly stay well away from the pikeys and knackers and dislike them intensely

useful info here

I always thought that Barry Hearn had some Gypsy in him.

Interesting that the name Boswell is considered an old Gypsy name. It just happens to be the surname of the family of scouse scallywags in the TV series Bread.

My gran was born in the West of Ireland. She always maintained that there were gypsies and tinkers. The former would turn up once or twice a year, fix your pots & pans, sharpen your knives and do seasonal work harvesting fruit and veg. Whereas Tinkers were thieving b'stards who would rob the eyes out of your head.

She was born in 1895 BTW, spoke Gaelic and when the "lucky white heather" sellers turned up at our door would curse them roundly in Gaelic at which point they would turn tail rapidly and make off.
