Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can anyone tell me a good website to find pictures of Operation Varsity? Much appreciated, ta.
  2. I've got a number, all from official sources, but the quality varies. Let me know specifically what you're looking for and I'll see if I can help.
  3. I'm looking for something showing the drop sites, the equipment dropped in and also something showing the level of German resistance. And yes I have tried google..... Bit pants I thought.
  4. These any use?

  6. Thanks dundrillin,

Reading the load carried saw the Locust 9T tank and Locust 9T truck.

Knew about the tank (too heavy for the YANK gliders but the Hamilcar could carry it), never heard of the truck though? or was this a typo?
  7. T9 was a tank not a truck You get a lot of typos in operational reports- guess they had better things to do than fill in paperwork! The two extracts below detail the fate of the tanks. Information from 6th Airborne Division report on Operation Varsity. (Previous was from 38 Group RAF Report on Varsity)
