Pensions and Prison

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Mrs Baldrick works in the local nick and has been asked by some cons to find out if when they are convicted it will affect their service pensions. Seems a few of them have done anything from 12 to 22 years before being locked up on remand and a couple have disablement pensions.
Tried Glasgow this morning, but won't give me an answer without regimental numbers, something obviously the cons aren't happy about doing as it could flag them up as being inside.
My gut feeling is that as it's being paid into bank accounts, what makes them think anything will change. But it's an interesting point, and before any of the usual hanging crew start posting, I don't know or care what they are in for nor do I care. I'm just after current info on whether or no being locked up has any effect on hard earned pension rights.

  2. Cheers Bigun

I think that answers their question perfectly :)

  3. No worries Baldrick, interestingly if you are of pensionable age and in prison your state pension is no longer paid.
