PECOC

#1
Chaps,

Just a quick one........

Is there anymore info on PECOC , the soldier 95 / PLCE replacement - or whatever it is called these days.

Based on a quick search of the net this stuff is supposed to be in service pretty soon.

Has anyone seen / used any of the kit?

Chav

Kit Monster is the man to ask. There's a PECOC roadshow doing the rounds at the moment.

Oh - and the Arrse search function works just fine: quite a few threads on PECOC.

I was planning to post some pictures of what some of it is like; seeing as so many people have seen it. Before I do I need some help in displaying pictures in a message. Yes I know I should be an expert etc etc etc.

I have set up a flickr page and have managed to get the url of a picture into a message but only the url link is displayed which needs to be clicked (see my stickie on corrective lenses). How do I get the picture to display in the message. Help me out and I'll start posting pics next week.

The way to display images is using the image tags, example
Code:
[img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/2747617032_3fcc81e085.jpg[/img]
produces

In your other post, you had some random collection of letters after the ".jpg" which were stopping it being identified as an image.

Not for me, try refreshing the page. Or use FireFox, if you're not already.

That seems to work.

Two different height boots?
Nope,

Picture taken at the Miendl Factory in Germany. They are both Desert Elites, currently on issue, before the sole unit is stuck on. If I remember one is a size 3 female and the other a size 12 male. Just for comparison! I have now 2 boots I take around on briefings, size 3 female (the smallest) and size 15 male (the biggest); used to show the size range of people that need kitting out and the difficulties in keeping all the size range stocked.

Now I know how to show pictures I will start showing some PECOC stuff; well the non-controversial stuff anyway!

DII blocks Flickr which is why you can't see the images .....

Controversial?Why? :?
Sometimes the operational analysis data (that's the virtual modelling not the operational feedback) throws up conflicting requirements, or sometimes further analysis is needed to make a sensible pragmatic decision. While this is working through the system the component and sub-system developers carry on a twin track so that when the requirement is confirmed the solution is already there. You can do that in clothing because the solutions will be relatively inexpensive to develop; its impossible with bigger technical projects (ie we will build two Aircraft carriers of different lengths while the decision is being made).

Some of the components may infer some very bold or controversial decisions and this is not the place to set the rumour dogs running. For example what if the data says (and it doesn't) that we should all go back to the small ECBA plate? Before we know it the papers would be claiming we were short changing the troops and the paras would immediately throw away Osprey and start wearing ECBA. So I would not show, if it existed, an armour solution that had a ECBA sized plate.

The circle of knowledge and access to PECOC pictures is pretty restricted and if I were to expose questions being asked of our seniors officers before they know they are going to be asked I would be identified and possibly shut down. A sensible but informative exposure of the main issues, already exposed on the roadshows, is unlikely to cause alarm in main building and may even get some under-the-desk sanctioning.

Anyway most of the big questions now are finance and numbers related not kit issues.

Kitmonster, you'll probably find this all taken very much out of context and in a red top next week....!

"the data says that we should all go back to the small ECBA plate"

I'd wager on that one.

a more sensible approach ref Osprey might be to trade 'worst case' protection for 'most likely' over a sensible surface area.

see after saying its not a data result it has already started speculation!!!! I knew I should have used the underpants example.....
