Boy, 12, is charged with assault by sausage

A boy of 12 has been brought before a court and charged with assault - with a sausage.

He was accused of throwing the cocktail sausage at an elderly neighbour. It allegedly hit him on the shoulder.

When the boy appeared at a youth court in Manchester, the judge said he could not believe the case had been brought before him. The boy's lawyer said the decision to prosecute "beggars belief".

The boy, who cannot be named, pleaded not guilty. It is understood the case has already cost about £2,000.

District judge Tim Devas said: "I was brought up in the era of Just William. You may not remember it, but this incident sounds similar.

"If he has done what was suggested, it is very bad behaviour. But is it in the public interest to prosecute a 12-year-old boy who threw a sausage?"

The alleged incident is said to have taken place on Aug 11 in Wythenshawe, Manchester, when the victim was walking home after visiting a pub. He claims that the boy threw the sausage after a disagreement.

The boy's mother said he had been "worried sick that he would be sent to prison".

Dianne Oliver, prosecuting, said that the Crown Prosecution Service would review the charge.

  2. well the fact he has been charged suggests he's had his two strikes allready, and I would suspect this is some gobby little chav who has kicked of when challenged by an adult.

We are always being criticsed for handing the streets over to little ferral fcukers, if you want them dealt with this is the reality of the cases you will see in court.
