Pay increase on promotion

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can anyone tell me the minimum amount of increase we should recieve upon promotion so that I can work out which level I should end up on? I'd heard previously that there was a minimum percentage which the increase should be.

  2. Last I heard when I was still in, it had to be a minimum of 2%.

  3. That's what I thought but I was just checking as it sounded alot! lol

    Thanks partyr

  4. It is definately miimum of 2% Wedge, you will go in at whatever level allows that increase (it is usually a bit more).

    I am about to go from maxed out Sgt (higher band) to SSgt (Lower band), so I am pretty much maxed out on Staffy pay straight away!

  5. Cheers guys.

    At least I know what I'll be on then. I take it getting acting rank (prior to a promotion) will be the same then!

  6. Depends. I did acting sgt for nearly a year. Because it was
    only local promotion you don't get paid any extra

  7. Promotion from Cpl to Sgt requires a 5% increase not the standard 2%.

  8. I will get my acting ssgt in oct, will get the 2% pay increase?

    thanks

  9. CT - so long as its Acting and not Local yes you will.

  10. I'm in exactly the same boat. I console myself with the thought of the massive SSgt (Lower band) to WO2 (Higher Band) leap.

  11. JSP 754 03.0704 'However, in all instances, a minimum 2% pay increase on promotion is to apply, including personnel on Reserved Rights Rate of Pay (RRRP) or Mark Time Rates of Pay (MTRP). In circumstances where movement to the lowest IL does not deliver this 2% increase, an individual is to receive the minimum 2% increase rounded up to the next IL within the applicable pay range3'

    Except for the CPL - SGT where it is 5%.

  12. I had a read of the JSP the other day, and couldn't quite work out who the 5% increase covers, as the paragraph after the one that refers to Cpls then goes on about OR 2 - 7 or something (ie LCpl - SSgt). I will cut and paste if dii lets me.

    From JSP 754 Issue 15
    "Pay on Promotion to OR6
    03.0706. With effect from 1 April 2009 a minimum increase of 5% is to apply
    on promotion to OR6. Where this results in an individual being paid above a
    Qualification Point (QP) bar a SSRP will apply until all qualifying criteria is met
    to enable Incremental Progression to resume. Regulations concerning RRRP,
    MTRP and SDRP are to apply as laid down in paras 03.0704 – 03.0705
    Pay on Promotion OR4 to OR7
    03.0707. With effect from 1 April 2009 a minimum increase of 5% is to apply
    on direct promotion from OR4 to OR7. Where this results in an individual
    being paid above a Qualification Point (QP) bar a SSRP will apply until all
    qualifying criteria is met to enable Incremental Progression to resume.
    Regulations concerning RRRP, MTRP and SDRP are to apply as laid down in
    paras 03.0704 – 03.0705"

    OR4 = Corporal
    OR5-6 = Sergeant
    OR7 = Staff Sergeant

    That para is just to coverpersonnel such as Tiffys. e.g go on course as a Cpl, Local Sgt for Course and then prom SSgt when passed the course. NB Promotion is always 1 day before passing the course :)
