  1. Hi my names Pete, I'm new here so apologies if this questions in the wrong column.

I'm starting my application in the summer after my physio is finished, and want to join as infantry.

At the minute I'm studying a Foundation Degree in Civil Engineering but I'm much more drawn to the infantry side of things.

I've seen the regular soldier salary, but it mentions there are different bands of pay in each of them, higher for more skilled work i.e. engineers and nurses.

Is the infantry the lowest paid of all jobs? I'd have thought you'd get paid well due to the nature of the work? And say your good enough to be accepted into an elite regiment like the paras, does your salary go up as this is an achievement?

    Thanks people.
  2. No, the infantry aren't the lowest paid at all.
There are two scales of pay, higher and lower, and the infantry toms start on lower, but jump to the higher pay band on promotion to Lance Corporal. There are also lots of specialist courses that attract specialist pay, para pay is one of them.
    Hope that helps.
  3. Thanks for the reply mate, I'm glad to hear it :D
