Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. got a quick question for those who know better than I..

    due to work commitments, i should have finished my training by now but i'm only due to be going on my 4 weekends and 2 week cmsr within the next couple of months.. but the question i have is this;
at the end of the cmsr.. is there a passing out parade where family members and the like can attend? or is that a priveledge reserved only for the regular army?
  2. mummy and daddy can come along to see you!!!... well so ive been told.
  3. its not the rentals i'm intrested in coming to see me.. its the other half whos nagging my pie hole cos i spend so much time on the road, then time with the TA.. the end is nigh i can see it! haha
  4. You get to stand on parade whilst the ATR's CO gives you all the usual guff about the TA being a vital part of this countries armed forces, etc etc.

Thats pretty much what my (ahem) passing out parade consisted of. You don't get to invite anyone, unless its changed.

  5. mmmmmmmmmm
  6. Some do the full whistles and bells treatment, for example my (Infantry) lot do.

PT, squarebashing, presentations, photos with rellies, cakes for afters.

So it looks like it's an individual unit thing, and you'd be better asking those who've already finished basic at your lot.

    Best Regards,

  7. we did the full works at Bassingbourn evan a Brigadier turned up to tell us we were great, some guys got awards PT,Best shot, best end ever best soldiers soldier lasted 30mins we could invite as many as we wanted marched around and that was that
  8. Did a Bird win this then? I would love to meet her.

    In fact was it her:
  9. when i did mine it wasnt so much a parade more a 'hurry up and wait'.
Had it in the garrison chapel and then finished it off with a beer or 5 in the NAAFI...

    Very simple parade:

All formed up in 3 ranks wearing cap, cnut like. CSM calls the nominal roll....

"Atkins" ("Sir", says Atkins) "Pass" ("Sir", says Atkins, with a smile)

"Bloggs" ("Sir", says Bloggs) "Fail" ("Sir", says Bloggs with bottom lip trembling).

This continues until Pte Zacharia has answered his name.

All "fails" feck off to clean the bogs in shame, all the passes reform ranks (now considerably smaller) and are presented with their berets.

Short, simple, effective. No bands, families or marching required.
  11. i wish,no boilers on our course, they had a full ladies course the week before, they were not convinced i was a lesbian though :(

I've done 2 in my time but the last was the least grand , we had just come from the field that morning only to be tabbed to the range to have a chat from the CO (ex badged chap) then only to be forced marched back to camp , well the drinks that night made up for it I suppose.

And all this happened in Holland ........ strange but true !!!!!
  13. The duke - that sounds more like P-Coy and not basic you mean twat lol ;)

It's how it worked on mine! Can you image trying to do a passing out parade an hour after the stretcher race?

    By the front, quick hobble....
  15. So do Royal Engineers Specialist TA have a pass out parade? if so where would it be at and what would it be like.
