Parts of arrse forcing pop up windows with possible malware links

On certain pages on ARRSE and only ARRSE I get a forced pop up window and browser hijack talking about my phone being compromised and suggesting a program to download.

It's quite aggressively taking over the arrse page and redirecting me away from site.

Phone is clean and it happens on every thread page more or less.

It seems to be the page itself as if I interrupt loading, it doesn't happen.

No other site is giving me these issues..arrse only.

You've been identified as a security weakness. The Russians intend to target you to influence the outcome of the SPOTY 2017 vote.

It's pretty much any page now. If it's allowed to load in full, the second I scroll I get it.

I highlighted this the other day. All I got was piss-taking about how I shouldn't watch too much porn.

It's clearly an issue - the links, not my porn habit.

Sussed it. If you turn Java off in your browser settings, it doesn't happen so it looks like, with my limited technical knowledge, that something somewhere is injecting dodgy java script into the site.

Maybe one of the adverts the sites carrying?

Its every single page now, as soon as you start to scroll it kicks you off the site.

Either way, it needs sorting.

Same, but only some pages and some threads....

I completely understand that these things are a total pain in the arrse. It is easy to blame the site but it could be any one of a number of things. A dodgy router, infected app installed on your phone and badly behaving ads being served by one of the ad networks we use are all options. The fact that only a small number of the thousands of people who use arrse per day seem to have the issue is also interesting.

Can I suggest that you clear your browser cache as a starter for 10 and see if that makes any difference?

It's your ads , it started happening to me too as soon as I stopped paying for ad free.

Ladbrooks and that infected phone bollocks.

I've had the same for the last week or so. Only ever when using my phone on the mobile network (as opposed to through my home WiFi). Always the infection one so far.

I had this problem on my PC last week. It seemed to be due to something called 'feedmyads'. The browser page was hi-jacked and I was forced to look at some adverts. Most were benign, but a few caused my anti-virus software to kick in.

I've totally blocked pop-ups, which seems to help. It might be a bit of a work-around (aka 'bodge') but an internet search hasn't shown me any other way of stopping the problem.

Drill:
On your browser page, go to 'Tools > Internet Options > Privacy'.
Make sure that the box 'Turn on pop up blocker' in the pop up blocker section is ticked and then click the 'Settings' button.
In the window that appears (Settings), click the pop up settings button at the bottom of the window and set the pop up blocker setting to 'High'.

There's a downside, sadly. None of the links to other pages in ARRSE or too external sites will work. You'll have to enable them individually when you get the error message.

Hope someone can come up with a better answer soon.

If your phone is rooted you can have a go at editing the hosts file. I did this on Windows and Linux machines but so far have not had to on my phone.
How to Edit the Hosts File on Android (and Block Web Sites)
I have several browsers on my phone, particularly Firefox, rather than relying on the default Chrome browser.
Chrome for funtionality; Firefox for slightly better security.

I don't use a web-enabled phone. I only access the web through my desktop PC. But thanks anyway. I'll bear it in mind. One day, I might come out of the stone age!

I've had problems with this issue. I posted this recently in another thread.

Thread resurrection I know but since I downloaded the latest version of safari, I get these things coming up on a regular basis. The reason I'm posting it here is because it only happens when I'm browsing this site.

They do vary from this to other warnings that this site is infected so press this button to scan your computer to you've been selected to trial the latest apple iPhone, press here to select etc.

Edit: Here's another one.

Seeing as it only happens when I'm on here, is anybody else getting this problem?

@Good CO @Bad CO

I've just shown this to my son who is getting to be quite a programmer and he thinks there's a possibility that someone may have added some JavaScript to the website because it's only happening on here?

Edit. The problem did seem to have gone away but it's interesting that other users are still getting these pop ups.

I get it on my phone, I had put it down to my habit of visiting porn sites, but it must be something else. Cleaned cache and all the usual things but still get it, especially the William hill site.

Exactly the same here. Can't use arrse when away from wifi as it just pops up crap.
