Well I've just sent off for my TA information pack and free DVD, and I figured I'd best have a look in here too! After 18 months as a civil serpent I decided it's time to get fit and do something a little more useful, so I thought I'd look into joining the TA. Looking through the career opportunities on the armyjobs website, there didn't seem to be too much. I want to be an officer but there are only nine listed careers there - mostly to do with medical specializations - but they did have Int Corps officers in there and that's always grabbed my attention. I'm in Bristol at the moment and I've found a local unit who I intend to get hold of, but I'm not too sure how long I'll be here for. Reading the FAQ here I see that 3MI is a national recruiter, so I assume that I could find another local unit if I moved back north. Thing is, I can't find one within 40 miles of Stockport. Does anyone know any contact details for 3MI units in the Northwest? Failing that, I wouldn't mind trying my hand in the Engineers. If I started as an Int Corps vounteer and did my ossifer training, would I be able to change trade that easily? I imagine there'd be issues there, somehow. Would it be possible to just do a "standard officer training" that would allow me to join any unit? Would I then be able to specialise (be it Eng., Int. or Inf.) later on, once I knew I was settled? How does the TA commitment of an officer differ to that of a soldier, if at all? No doubt I'll think of some other things to ask soon enough - many of them ones I've missed in the FAQ. Thanks in advance for the help, though.
