  1. After this disgusting announcement that paras are no longer to receive jump training or extra jump pay does this mean they they will no longer be able to wear wings.
If this is so then i think it may seriously affect recruiting in the future of the finest regiment in the britsh army.
I did not serve with them but one of my regrets in life is not having done so.

    Thanks for that.
  3. BBC also states,

It added: "In light of the SDSR, it is likely that the majority of Parachute Regiment soldiers will remain fully trained to parachute but the parachute requirement for 16 Air Assault Brigade as a whole will be reduced.

Seems sensible and reasonable to me, in the circumstances of the day.
  4. So, you don't have a dog in this fight then? Yes, those that have already done the jumps course will continue to wear them;those that don't/haven't, won't!
A capability we haven't used in years, we can't afford all that extra jump pay.

  5. Link to the announcement please, as I have not yet heard it.

Wings are to be worn in perpetuity.
  6. Aye because people generally enlist in the army for the money...

  9. What about divers pay, submariner and flying pay amongst others. Are they going to bin that also?

Para pay apparently isn't specialist pay anymore. I'm sure it's in QR's now that its retention pay. Does that mean if you stop para pay you then take away the incentive to stay in? Surely a case for constructive dismissal?

  10. Jumps courses are still getting loaded from para battalions. The story, as many others have been in the past has been filled with speculation. Jumps training isn't in question, but para pay is.
  11. All “SP” pay is retention based, whether its flying, para, EOD, or diver pay. If there is no retention problem then there is to be no pay.

These have all been under review for some time now and some will go.
  12. Er, divers dive, submariners go on subs, and (most) pilots fly! Paras, generally, don't, except in training.

  13. What about a submariner waiting on his sub which is in refit for 2 years?

What about all the old crusty ***** receiving flying pay who haven't set foot in an aircraft for years?

I know an engr diver who hasn't dived for about 8 years, he still gets his pay.

Oh, by the way I jumped a few weeks ago. Out my Bn of around 600 only 45 or do are out of date due to being downgrade. So we do still jump.
