Paras take on US Marines

#1
Well not exactly, but I was interested to see this charity effort:

A Parachute Regiment team including wounded soldiers will compete in the prestigious US Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC, on October 31st. This 35th running of the event through the capital city of the USA is a major international event, attracting military teams from all over the world including US, Denmark and the UK (including The Rifles). We will be raising funds for The Parachute Regiment Charity www.paracharity.org

The event will raise awareness and funds on behalf of wounded soldiers in the UK and US.
Our ‘Maroon Five’ in Team PARA are: Capt Mike Kerrigan, OC Team; Cpl, Pete McCoombe, 2 i/c who has lost an eye; Pte Jaco van Gass (lost arm); Pte Keiron Dry, (GSW to head) and L/Cpl Tom Neathway (triple amputee). Tom plans to start out on his artificial limbs for as long as he can, and the team will make sure he goes the whole distance with their help. It will be a real PARA team effort.

A very worthy cause, money sent. I look forward to hearing how it went.

Good drills this is what true heros do, They should be up for sports personailties of the year instead of those over paid footballers. True team spirit will get Tom over the finish line.

I doubt they'll call it off because of bad plumbing and snakes :)

Damn right.

Regardless of capbadge, that's inspiring enough to make me bung them a donation.

Great cause and I wish them all the very best. A little bit will be on the way at the end of the month.

At least all those stretcher races had a purpose then!!! :)

The gallant Paras can count on one of the best conducted and inspiring marathons in the world, having run it many times including the inaugural event in 1976 when our Marine Reserve sponsored it.

I also throw down the cudgel to the Bootnecks who should not let the Paras show them up. I will also be in touch with our Wounded Warrior Regiment to ensure they host all of our British cousins properly.

To encourage maximum participation in supporting this great effort I will donate a signed copy of Michael Yon's new pictorial of the war in Iraq for auction.

Nice one JJH. I'm sure that will be greatly appreciated.

I'll be bidding on Michael Yon's book.

It's about time he got out of that cushy office job the little skiver,he's putting on the beef :)
I love the mental image of an ex USMC officer shouting "ginggeeeeer" at a British Paratrooper in DC.

Be sure to video it JJH :)

Absolutely awe inspiring! Great cause and as expected, the Para mentality shines through!

Has this been flagged over on the Traf's Facebook page?

Not seen on the Traf's page - I saw it on a former colleague's 'InYerFaceBook' page.

Great cause, great spirit, let's support it even if it's a small donation. (Size doesn't matter... ahem...)

I'll bung a bit their way when some hits my account! Also, I'll stick this on the Traf's page, just in case they don't know about it.

Edited to add: No I won't as J_D beat me to it!
