Should I join the paras or marines as an officer. I'm exactly 50/50 split between the two and can't decide between airbourne or amphibious. I love a good challenge, and I definitely want to be the best of the best. The ultimate end goal is SAS selection, so maybe one would help better than the other. Thanks!

Can you swim, own an oiled up roll mat? If not .... 49 Para is the go to unit these days.

Are you related to Mike Golden at all?

Royal has a slightly different way of training it’s officers. You don’t have to mix with any half arrsed RMAS cadets, women, support arms jellyfish and foreign dignitaries unmotivated frigophobic tea-towel wearing spawn

I’ve supported combined RM/RMAS final exercises and the difference in Calibre between the two is extraordinary in the field.

Yes Para Officers go on to do loads more training but that initial RMAS period must ******* irk more dynamic, determined fighting types

I voted Paras. Like @Hootch said, 49 Para is the unit to be with.

As no one has the courage to address the elephant in the room, I will.

If you want to join as an officer, you should seriously consider REME.

The biscuit selection is second to none.

What makes you think you'll qualify for either?

If you are a thinking man and can spell then aim to join the Marines.

If you are more gung-ho and swift to get punchy, then become a para.

You've come on a website asking people what you should do for a career ?
Join neither, both units are groaning at the seams with decisive motivated chaps and dont need a dithering fanny like you .
Hope that helped?

Be different.

Join the Foreign Legion and find out what military life is like at the bottom of the heap first. Become a Para there and get loads more jumps in. Be based in one of Corsica's premier tourist resorts. March further, faster and carrying more kit. Learn another language. Go on Ops. Go on Ops again. Go on several short rotational tours to various exotic places. Do several specialist training courses. Learn to drink. Learn to do much phys after drinking. Etc., etc, etc.

After five years come out and (if you still want to) then go for a Commission in the RM or the Parachute Regt.
