Parachute Regiment in Desert Storm 1990/91

#1
I'm doing some research on Desert Storm and until now I was under the impression that the Paras were not deployed to the Gulf in 1990/91 but then I saw a lad Shuan Rusling (4 para) who got a medal out there.

Does anyone know which Para regiments were deployed to Desert Storm in 1990/91?

Thanks

I dont think that any of the Battalions were deployed. However, I do believe some individual Para's were deployed whilst attached to other units. I saw a couple of Para lads in Blackadder as BCR's. There were also other Para's involved in Paderborne training BCR's. I also heard that some Para lads were attched to some of the infantry units deployed.

I stand to be corrected though.

Wasn't there a Para Reg officer attached to a Cav outfit ?
I think he went on to be an author

That could be him but I can't remember his name
I'm sure I read it in the sleave notes that he started in the Parachute Regiment
Can't remember the bloody book either

They didn't deploy on Regimental level.

There were individual soldiers attached to other units.
GW1 medals to Paras are quite rare.

He was there as a medic.

Also, the Para Regt (?Pegasus) Band were there at I believe 33 Field Hospital as stretcher bearers.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm beginning to fill a gap in the history of British Army units. I came across a name - a guy called John Clancy who was supposed/claimed to have served in the Paras in Desert Storm but don't know what Para unit he served with- does his name sound familiar with anyone? He might be a Walt though!

That's all I know myself in addition to what's been said here. I'm trying to get a mail to Shuan Rusling to see if I can get a short account of his experience in Desert Storm. He won a medal so must have a story to be proud of :)
