Great incidental music by seasick steve, but the whole thread of the programme seemed to be the BBC's inexplicable shock that Obama hasnt fixed America for all the folk who elected him!
Well pardon me if I can see the wood for the trees, socialism doesnt work especially in a free market economy like the US. It goes against the ggrain and even theose let down by faiiled banks etc only want to work and improve themselves. The only people making a fuss about poverty were the wealthy yanks in media who obviously arent going without anytime soon!
I have met some dirt poor North Americans and Canadians. My family had 160 acres of praire in the depression and ran dogs on coyotes for a nickel a hide!
What the bleeding heart liberals dont seem to realise is that most poor folk would rather the economy was fixed then the jobs will come and last longer rather than stupid welfare to work schemes.

Yanks and the BBC eh!

I don't think he was elected to fix everything, just to tame some of the worst excesses of the free market, which he hasn't really done, in spite of having majorities in both houses for his first two years.

I think the point of the BBC show was that, despite the rhetoric, nothing has really changed on the ground.

Lol you think Obama is a socialist?

Have you just been dropped on your head, drank a quart of vodka or have been hanging about with moronic septics clutching tea bags or something?

Not a clue you.

America works on the principal of "fukc you - I'm ok" if you think it's so great go and live there for a year or two and then share your opinion.

He's no more a Socialist than call me dave is a Tory! Its the BBC that gave that message out, mind you. As a crooked lawyer he has followed the new labour route into politics

It's quite scary that people can be living like that in the richest country in the world though. I don't always like the way they're run or what they cost but thank Christ we have universal health care and social security.

Schools having to put food parcels together for their pupils to live on over the weekends, people having to live in tents in the woods and having no access to routine medical care isn't right anywhere, never mind in the US.

Go to America-stand on any corner-carry a placard-"I am a Black socialist" and the KKK will beat you to death.

What most bleeding heart liberals do not realise is the gap between the super-rich and the rest of the USA. The poor folk will take care of themselves. The super-rich are so up themselves they will not see it coming.

But tell me more about the coyotes your ancestors hunted with dogs. Did they wear feathers in their hair and dance around camp fires making whooping noises? Did you scalp them?

Ugly, a quick trip to White City will reveal the many, now slightly yellowed but still actively loved photos of The Great One Bluetacked to producers' desks.

I'd take you there myself and buy you a coffee, but I can't be arrsed anymore to stand in line behind Alan "Botney" Yentob, while he orders a 'semi skimmed, tricky, chocky latte' and then asks for the receipt so you can help him pay for it.

His pension pot? £8m. So he'll be happy even if the Bubbles kick off big style.

45,000,000 Americans are living in poverty, mostly in "tent towns" according to the Telegraph quoting American statistics, odd that, what with O'Barmy running the show dont you think?.

The US Prez has no more control over the US economy than does the UK PM.

Right now, the forces that are most damaging are (a) the cheapo hi-tech manufacturing capacity of China and india, and (b) the total reluctance of the UK/US to really ensure that the Nation's entrepreneurs (whose energies are s'posed to pump-prime and fuel the Nation's ability to feed, house and care for its populace) are genuinely making a contribution to the overall economy.

If entrepreneurs simply outsource to China, or open franchises turning graduates into burger-flippers, or do banking deals - AKA gambling? - and then do a B'liar (annual turnover £12m, tax paid for same period £350k, the rest in tax havens, I shit you not), then the West is in for world of hurt.

I concur entirely. But I would also add... the poorer the workers in America become the more they will demand cheap goods, so the more demand from china/india to produce those goods, a self fueling circle that cannot be broken, except by intervention, which any US president cannot do, because the corporations run America.

I occasionally have a serious chat with a Yank Advocate, refuses to term himself a lawyer, and he has mentioned more then once that his two children, both mid 30's, find it difficult to run their business due to all the Petty Laws originating in Washington.
Not a free enterprise society any more.
