The mission systems are still to be fitted but nice to see an RAF MPA airborne again for the first time in almost 10 years.

The blocks and the housing behind is awful - people are really expected to work and live in those buildings?
Lossie has undergone significant redevelopment since that picture was taken.

However, lack of investment in domestic and technical infrastructure is a major problem for the RAF at several of our stations. Some of that is because of the UOR nature of several of our platforms (notably Reaper and Shadow), some of it is due to budgetary pressures, and some is over-emphasis on the ‘E’ in TEPIDOILS procurement.

Certainly, it’s fair to say that some of our accommodation is worse than that found in prisons.

We need to do better and money is now being diverted to address urgent needs.

That pic of the old Sqn buildings is from Kinloss in the 70s or 80s, isn't it? It's pretty well known in aviation circles (pprune etc) and the cars / MQs would suggest a dated photo.

Good call! I still transpose Lossie for Kinloss in my mind on a regular basis!

Ironically, the Lossie runway refurb will see our P-8s (and Typhoons) operating from Kinloss when they first return home. This will be an interesting clash of cultures as the Army Garrison Commander has already had to explain to the Lossie Staish on several occasions why soldiers were driving vehicles, jogging and on one occasion even walking their dogs on an active runway.

How big is it inside, compared to the inside of a Nimrod
Probably similar in terms of square footage to an MRA4 (not that there was ever an operationally configured aeroplane) as the mission system is the same but it has a more airy and modern feel.

P-8 tour...
