Over 50`s , How Knackered Are You ?

To add: When I started taking the supplements it was not instant, it took a few days, it may not work for everyone and it may work to different degree's. My problem is that I take BP tablets which due to their blood pressure lowering effects lower the BP to all parts of the body - the Doc told me as much and offered me blue pill's when he gave me the BP pill's. All I know is I'm happy with the L'Argnine and weed, I take 2 L'A and 3 weed pills daily - not quite normal service but, along with everything else it's all good.
So the L'Argnine has not allowed you to stop taking BP pills?

I've recently come to the conclusion that the biggest "health gamble" of all is whether or not you have a sensible, experienced GP!

Had the same chap for over 35 years. He would never prescribe unless he genuinely felt it would be a benefit to me. Had no time for trivial complaints. Not sleeping well? - you need to go away and get on with it. HRT - you don't need it - it's not compulsory to have menopause symptoms. He knew all about my health before I walked through the door by the simple expedient of having confidence in his own experience, quick check on the computer as a reminder. Jobbed.

When he finally retired (actually, he took up a part time role as an A&E Consultant - the nutter), I've endured endless questions, lack of continuity, unnecessary tests etc. I know why this box-ticking rubbish happens and try to be patient (swidt). But it's such a retrograde step, it boils my piss sometimes. :-(

Medication taken at the moment for both conditions - Omazeprole, Linagliptin, Metformin (combo with another drug I can't remember the name of), Gliclazide, Ticagrelor, Aspirin, Bisoprolol, Ramipril, Atorvastatin. (drugs in bold are twice a day).
!
I think I have a one pill fits all replacement

64 years old.
Prostate cancer - terminal.

4cm anyeurism in my common/external iliac which is about to be operated on. The usual diameter of the iliac is around 1cm so it's about to rupture :relax:. My cardiologist doesn't seem too bothered so I'm not.

Other than that, fit as a butchers dog.

Bummer.

If you see what I mean ....

Correct.

Working on that though. Cut out caffeinated coffee, drinking horse piss pomegrante juice daily and along with some self beasting I was getting it down nicely and was looking forward to getting off the pills by xmas then I banged up my knee seriously when I did freefall over the handlebars of my mountain bike - Doc reckons it will take till next april to heal fully. Luckily it is during the time I am getting my neck fixed.......I shall start a thread on spinal surgery/disc replacement as I know across the age spectrum there are many with disc problems.

The annual test (PSA?) is done by blood testing over here. No more getting the fickle finger!
PSA done here too but it's not as telling as the finger.
Spreading one's poo onto little cardboard cutouts three days running is fun - tests for bowel cancer & free for all over 60's.

Any way, my knackered bits:
Eyes: need distance glasses
Teeth: Lost four & broken jaw in a m/cycle accident 40 years back. Lost another since & have one cracked.
Hair: Going, going....
Back: Two buggered discs between my shoulder blades that give me gyp occasionally & five prolapsed discs that give me sciatic nerve pain, a hot left foot & issues with prolonged fast walking or running.
Piriformis syndrome.
Diverticulitis.
Irritable bowel syndrome
Lungs not too great after 40 years as a heavy (40+ a day) smoker.
Can't seem to get more than 5 hours sleep in one go without chemical help (nope- booze is NOT the answer, as it gives me shit sleep).

The positives:
Dropped 40lb since January
Blood pressure down from prehypertension/occasional hypertension to almost invariably normal.
Sciatica, piriformis syndrome & diverticulitis appear to be mostly in abeyance.
Blood sugar way down from where it was two years ago
Diet change means no more reflux.
Feel far more positive mentally than any time in the last 10 years.

Best of all; I ent ded yet.

My Mum takes most of those.

She's 88....

Starving yourself & exercise?

I have put on poundage due to having to let my knee heal and need to starve myself a tad...........but I do like food.

Not even starving myself but a change in diet that's halved my carbs & yes, far more exercise, as in an hour or more fast or hill walking most days, when previously I was sat all day.

How come you take Metformin and Insulin, I thought it was normally one or the other

Do they give you both if your diabetes gets really bad ????
I guess so but the downside with the original dosage of Metformin (1000mg twice daily) and Co-Amilofruse is that my kidney function has deteriorated rapidly. I am now on 500mg of Metformin twice daily. Although I have not personally experienced any problems with my kidneys, apart from passing a stone some 10 years ago, I have been told that I will not regain the lost kidney function. Hence the reason my GP has referred me to a Kidney Specialist in November.

My Missus takes the piss when ever I`ve had a prostate check , cheeky cow reckons I request them.
I tell mine that I always request a female doctor, smaller hands.

Had to have a tooth taken out last week. That's the third one I've lost (the first playing rugby some 45 years ago, the second after biting into a donut (American spelling as it was in New Orleans) about 25 years ago. This one because I was too idle to go to the dentist as soon as it started hurting and got too bad.
Been for a walk this morning to the shop for the baguette. About 2 mile round trip. Back home and went in the pool for an hour. Did 20 lengths (it's only a 20m pool) at a fast crawl and then bimbled about for the rest of the time.

Haven't been to a doctors for many a year (at least 12 when I had a trapped nerve in my neck) but have made an appointment next week as my BP appears to be on the up in the last couple of months. Normally around 125/75 but has been showing 145/85 with a nasty 160/90 one morning. Haven't changed my diet or lifestyle so want to see what the doc has to say about it.

Yeah, my legs feel a bit stiff in the morning coming down the stairs and my knees seem to make a bit more noise than normal sometimes. No little blue pills necessary at the moment.

My waist is a bit more outward pushing than it used to be and has crept up to 37 inches so could do with losing 2 or 3 inches from there. However, the Spanish have a saying Soy mas ancho que largo which is, literally, I'm wider than I am tall but they use it to express contentment with their life.

I could also do with stopping smoking but I've been at it for over 50 years. No COPD but the odd, nasty coughing fit.

Not too bad considering I'll be 70 in 3 months time.

Forgot to mention Sildenifil (Viagra) 4 x 50mg tablets per month-They don't seem to work!
Get them up’d to 100mg then.

When a “friend” was living in Scotland he was getting the standard 50mg tablets but then had the idea of asking for the dosage to be increased to 100mg as they weren’t working (lie). My “friend” then broke the tablets in half and the rest as they say...

I've had more fingers up my bum than I ever had during hot sex. Got to quite like it after a while...
...especially when you can feel two hands on your shoulders at same time. (Good luck)
