Exclusive by Chris Hughes On JTAC Hill, Afghanistan 18/02/2008

They call it the Taliban blooding zone - a bleak, wind-blasted and vastly outnumbered desert outpost called JTAC Hill.

This is the most southern British fort in Helmand Province, almost 100 miles south of the main UK base Camp Bastion.

But it is also the new Afghan frontline, just 40 miles north of the Pakistan border, over which fresh jihadist fighters pour every day.

A stark rule exists here - if they survive a few days trying to kill British soldiers, the warlords send them on missions further north.
