Our plan to rebuild: UK Government COVID-19 recovery strategy

Herd immunity via a vaccine or just by almost everyone getting it? The problem is that the Grim Reaper does not always get it right, a point ignored by advocates of a Darwinian approach.

The lazy, cowardly, and stupid have an uncanny ability to survive anything. I wonder if it is because they do not get stressed?

Well, there isn't yet a vaccine.
Sweden doesn't seem to be doing particularly worse than anybody else despite the lack of serious restrictions.

Does that mean trade with Sweden is largely unaffected? The UK depends on international trade. Most nations will have had restrictions of some sort. Does this mean the playing field has been mostly even with respect to international trade?

If the Government can help the hospitality sector, then why not exporters?

What do people think of the announcement this Thursday? Rishi Sunak seems to have prioritised maintaining skills - something that was mentioned by business managers who were interviewed. Additionally there is an extension to the VAT cut to the hospitality and tourism sectors.

For manufacturing industry retaining skills is critical, and I believe manufacturing and exporting will be key to rebalancing the economy.

Wor Little came back from working in the US and planned to go to Canada to work, so she got a job in a local hotel to sort the admin out and save.

When all this kicked off the owner - an elderly guy - gave a speech to the staff which went along the lines of "We've been open for 250 years and two world wars. This isn't going to close us down!"

The rumour is that they're going to close down.

The vast majority of their client base comes from visitors to Chepstow racecourse and there's none of that happening, or going to happen, as far as anyone can see.

Point being; a family business that's been going for 250 years may have to close. Apply that across the hospitality sector of the economy and you can see there's going to be trouble.
