I read this book some years ago and it is a really fascinating and interesting read. I found the PM which was carried out on the corpse very funny, you have to read it to understand why. Well worth buying.

Really good read the film was on Film 4 a few weeks back with the real Cmdr Ewen Montague playing the RAF Bomber command chap.
IIRC Ben Macintyre also did his own tv documentary on this as well

An overlooked part of the story is the love affair between Montague and one of his female assistants. Initially, the relationship between the two was to add some veracity to the cover story of the "Major". Montague even told his wife about her!
After the success of the operation and the inevitable break up of the team. Montague and his wife struggled to come to terms with what he had done, although he, Montague, actually proved that nothing transpired; there was still the inevitable mistrust between the two.
