Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. The city of Meaux, 41 km East of Paris, will be opening a new museum only dedicated to WWI on the 11th of November 2011 at 1100 AM.

The museum is centered around the collection of one of France's leading expert on WWI, Mr Jean-Pierre Verney who will also be the historical advisor for the museum.

This should mean it's going to be a quality museum, no too heavy on the PC side.

More to follow after the opening...

Musée de la Grande Guerre du Pays de Meaux | Le Pays de Meaux a rendez-vous avec l'Histoire.
  2. Will it def be at 11h00 and who is presiding at the opening ceremony?

Sth tells me that the UK and Commonwealth contribution will get scant mention ....

edited to add it looked far from finished the other week when an acquaintance visited the site

further edit, so will this draw visitors away from the Historial de la Grande Guerre at Péronne? just a thought
  3. I'm guessing the official opening will be at 15h00. Jean-François Copé presiding with Monsieur le Président in attendance, as the latter will be doing the ravivage/rekindling of the flame at the Arc de Triomphe at 11h00. Public opening starts at 18h00.
