The first CO of which you speak, last name starts with C and was one of 'THEM'?
The 'C' you refer to was a full Colonel by the early 80s (a bit earlier in fact), so he wouldn't/couldn't have been @Stonkers guy.

That said, your 'C' had certainly been one of 'them', and, for that matter, one of 'those'as well ;) .........earlier, he had been a 'desert dweller' too .......he got around a bit.

This could have gone into 'Music', but since it contains photo's aka video, and refers to one of the greatest atrocities/failures of Op Banner, I put it here - (it also concerns one of our own):

Murlough Bay in Co Down with the Mournes in the distance.
Just south of Ballykinler.

@beefer a small world. Love it! I must have got there late April, early May - ought to know but can’t remember exactly, it all seems so long ago….. definitely there for the elections in June. I spent a happy week in a water filled trench with some extremely pissed off soldiers and a GPMG(SF) aimed at the Polling Station in the village.
Our OC, not a popular man at the best of times, took to flying low over us in a Gazelle and would then criticise our cam & concealment over the air. Eventually this led to the boys shouting ‘Fvck off’ and flicking Vs at the chopper or throwing stones at it…..

There's always one, as if it wasn't hard enough in the first place!
Remember a story of the Welsh Guards on exercise in BAOR when they were being overflown to test cam and concealment. Lots of great photos, outstanding cam on the troops and vehicles, but back at RHQ there was a big white mark. Transpired they had a table cloth out ready for lunch.

Confusing as things have lately become, no.

They amalgamated with The Queen's Regiment, sidestepped HM the Q, got Squidgy (by then at the height of her popularity with the hoi-polloi and the gutter press loyal subjects of the Crown and the gentlemen of Fleet Street ) to sign up as titular head of the new mob, thus - rather gracelessly - deleting (during a living Queen's reign) from the Army Order of Battle a regimental title of considerable antiquity in favour of Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment (which doesn't even trip off the tongue)
'Squidgy', there is a blast from the past. Squidgygate, Gilbey and Diana talking phone sex and masturbation.

In fairness, our ‘Queen’ was (and still is as far as we’re concerned), Queen Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II.
There was method in our madness, as in 1714 we had temporarily been styled ‘Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales’s Own Royal Regiment of Foot’ (we didn’t tell the Hamsters that), the plan being when the silly one we’d inherited in the amalgamation became Queen, we would reclaim our ancient title! Sadly, as we all know, she wasn’t up to the job and resigned sometime ahead of her trip to Paris.
