Opération Serval - Mali.

Was the lady who was killed of Vietnamese origin? Her surname was similar to the ones used by the Vietnamese ethnic hill tribes.
When the French bugged out what was then Indo China lots of locals who had been loyal to the French, police, soldiers etc moved to France PDQ. Same with French colonies in N Africa and Africa down a bit. French made extensive use of colonial troops.

In the IndoChina War, there were locally recruited Vietnamese in Foreign Legion units as well. They didn't wear the white kepi as they did not go through training in Sidi Bel Abbes, but were distinguished by white berets. Some later became full Legionnaires.

I think all Metropolitan French regiments had Vietnamese troops embedded with them in Indo-China didn't they? The GCMA had French officers and NCO's leading Nung and Hmong tribesmen who were pro French and Anti Communist. similar to the USSF in the sixties.

The GCMA in Indo China.

The last Czech elements of TF Takuba have now arrived in Mali.

Macron will give his best wishes to the armed forces tonight.

It is widely expected he will announce the end of the 600 pax surge to Op Barkhane which had started a year go.

Macron has said that Op Barkhane would be "adjusted" without further details.

The details could be given next month during the N'Djamena summit with the G5S presidents

The recce platoons (SAED) of infantry units are now being mixed with HALO platoons (callsign Cobra) or Mountain commandos platoons (callsign Spartan) in order to spread the operational experience and TTPs over a larger number of units.

The callsign of SAED is now Falco and the 126°régiment d'infanterie is providing the first detachment.

Main missions are airmobile QRF and LRRPs. HALO platoons of course add the HALO capabilities that have been used on dozens of occasions in the Sahel.

The slots filled by SAEDs will give the HALO platoons and Mountain commandos more time to train on their fields of expertise.

It’s a process that has been historically repeated over and over again in armies across the world: TTP’s and kit originally introduced by and for “Special Forces” gradually filter down and become embraced by a wider range of units.

This may be of interest to you:

Executive Summary of the report in English:

I wonder how this may influence the situation in the Sahel?

It is painful that medium dot com "Voices of the armed forces" has managed a ridiculous mistake in the second paragraph of their article. Or maybe US-English makes no distinction between 'ordnance' and 'ordinance'?

"She is a search dog and her role is to assist the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) search team on the ground."

Dramatic church pronouncements could, possibly, inflame the situation - but I suspect that bangy things could do more immediate harm.

Two FAMA positions have been attacked by terrorists. French Mirage 2000D and Tigre helicopters intervened, killing 15 terrorists.

6 malian soldiers were KIA by the terrorists in the early stages of the attack

The VBL (in which the 2 Huzzards were killed)
Is to be replaced (European consortium)
I have seen the esquise and it looks like the original but only bigger and fatter (like the Fiat 500)

This is an already ongoing program, the VBAE. The FRA MoD said "it could be the opportunity of a European program" but nothing more at this stage.

The VBL is currently being upgraded but against 40-50 kg IED it won't change the end results much...
