France is now clearly in a « pass the bucket » phase regarding the stabilisation of the Sahel.
The upcoming elections in France in 2022, the dodgy dealings of the Malian Government which is negociating with terrorist groups (negociations that led to the freeing of over 200 terrorists in late 2020 with associated rise in French casualties) and general lack of encouraging perspective are leading French authorities to move on to another phase.
Like in other theaters before, after the initial phase, the surge phase, we are likely to soon move to the « malianisation » phase where French forces will be mostly involved in operational partnership with G5 Sahel forces.
Within this frame, the French and Ivoirian authorities have developped a CT school based close to Abidjan called the AILCT (CT International academy).
The AILCT is based on 3 pilars ; a school for MoI, MoD and MoJ executives, a training camp for special units and a strategic research institute.
The French DCSD which is in charge of cooperation has released a Tweet yesterday which shows how advanced the project already is with a number of very interesting training sites that have already been used for CT and sniping courses. There are pictures of the infrastructures in the below Tweet.
French SF and GIGN units provide the instructors and the target audience are G5 Sahel and Gulf of Guinea nations' special units i order to improve their capabilities .
A video of Côte d’Ivoire units training on the AILCT site (Ivoirian TV journal) giving a glimpse of the training opportunities
