Interesting surnames. One very French, the other two Polynesian and Armenian. The Armenian community in France is long established over many generations. RIP all of them and my deepest condolences to all their families.

Gen question, is the use of IED's very prevalent in the Sahel.

It's a common weapon against French and MINUSMA forces. A third of French fatalities are IED related.

The 7 last FRA KIA were cavalry troopers serving on Panhard VBL AFVs. This vehicle needs to be replaced in this theater by something better protected as the terrorists seem to be specifically targeting them, often with large IEDs. Six VBLs have been destroyed by IEDs so far.

It has also been revealed that another IED caused six French WIAs in the same area a few hour later.

The Fantassin magazine published by the French school of infantry is now available online, back issues included.

The magazine is bilingual French-English and has numerous features on recent Op including Several/Barkhane.

PS: I am not part of the Fantassin team

;-)

Thanks for that. I didn't realise the use of IED's were that common.

Quite a rare sight, a Mirage 2000C, thus the AD variant of the M2000, but fitted with a Mk 82 unguided bomb.

There are currently 2 M2000C in Op Barkhane; it is the last of deployment of the type before it is retired.

The tasks this regiment undertakes can make its troops particularly vulnerable.
“Je vous salue, les braves.”

Once again, the terrorists singled out a Panhard VBL. Speedy recovery to the wounded.
Is this use of inappropriate vehicles generating the same level of media pressure in France as use of SNATCH land rovers in Iraq did in UK?
