ONLINE SURVEY - HM FORCES ELECTORAL PARTICIPATION

Discussion in 'Current Affairs, News and Analysis' started by hackle, May 19, 2005.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Almost as much fun as the Amarillo video! Perhaps I exaggerate.

After earlier discussion in another thread, an online survey has been produced and is now running in test mode. The data from the test phase will be carried forward to the actual survey, so no-one will be asked to complete it twice.

The survey is mainly about registration and voting in the recent election. The survey is for any full-time personnel of any of the three Services - including mobilised reservists - and anyone married to a Regular.

Feedback so far has been favourable. The survey has 8 standard questions, plus questions for particular groups. The survey is absolutely and completely anonymous.

The survey author would appreciate a few more volunteers with the aim of completing the test phase by midnight Friday. If you are able to take part in the test, please PM myself and I will give you the link. At this stage we would particularly like to hear from:

    • ANY BFPO POSTAL VOTER

ANY MOBILISED RESERVIST (who was serving on the date of the election)

ANYONE WHO JOINED AS A REGULAR BETWEEN 2001 AND 2005

ANYONE WHO MARRIED A REGULAR BETWEEN 2001 AND 2005

ANYONE WHO WAS NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE
The above list should not be taken as indicating any particular slant in the questionnaire. I gather there has been feedback that the questions are "completely neutral", with "no obvious bias".

    regards, Hackle

  2. Re above, testing of the survey is well under way despite 'Amarillo', but hasn't yet covered any of the above 'special cases'. I do realise there will be not many people online in any of these categories.

A few more volunteers, including a couple more 'vanilla' volunteers not in the above categories, would be very helpful in completing the test phase by midnight Friday. PM me please for the link to the survey.

Thanks to everyone who has done the survey so far, thanks also for useful feedback.

    regards

  3. Ref above, we did get more volunteers to test-drive the survey, many thanks indeed to those concerned.

Still looking for anyone in the following categories to complete the survey. We are hopeful that no major changes will be needed, therefore we hope that all the data entered during the test will form part of the 'real' survey.

I know it's a long shot to find anyone in these rather specialised categories to do the survey today/tonight, but it's worth a try. If you can help, please PM me for the web link to the survey.

    • ANY MOBILISED RESERVIST (who was serving on the date of the election)

ANYONE WHO JOINED AS A REGULAR BETWEEN 2001 AND 2005

ANYONE WHO MARRIED A REGULAR BETWEEN 2001 AND 2005

ANYONE WHO WAS NOT REGISTERED TO VOTE

  4. Thanks to the member who has, very reasonably, asked me about the status of this survey.

It is being carried out on behalf of the now well-known Services electoral campaign centred on our beloved 'ARRSE'. The loose 'core group' involved in this are all active members of ARRSE, including myself and the author of the survey. The campaign has of course had crucial support from many other members outwith the so-called core group.

The ultimate responsibility for the survey lies with the survey author and not this website, but because of the 'ARRSE' angle, agreement was obtained from the moderators before starting the survey.

In the best spirit of 'ARRSE', the survey is absolutely and completely anonymous. There is more explanation and a privacy statement at the beginning of the survey - we will probably post a copy here once the survey is fully under way.

When fully under way the survey will be made available to non-ARRSE personnel and partners. I understand that where internet access is not available, it is technically possible to make the survey available for completion on paper, but the completed surveys would then have to be posted or faxed back to UK.

The survey questions are all of the 'tick box' variety or similar, and there is also one text box where if people want to and have time they can give a little more detail, or their views.

    Hope this answers the question.

  5. :D :D :D Have just seen the collated results from the test phase of the survey.

It all works and the information is going to be genuinely useful. Our thanks to all who have already done the survey.

The actual survey will be online from tonight 21 May. It's being edited to cut down slightly on the intro and explanations, but the questions will be unchanged.

Feedback is that the survey is easy enough to complete and should not take much time.

The survey is for anyone serving full-time (including mobilised personnel) in any of the three services; and married partners of Regulars. If anyone wants to report voting problems for other adults in their household - unmarried partners, adult children or anyone else staying with them longterm - we suggest you complete the survey for yourself and mention these problems in the optional text box at the end of the questionnaire.

We realise that there is never going to be a huge number of people doing the survey - it doesnt attempt to cover a representative sample of the Service population - but we had great results from the much more limited 'NOLEAFREP' and 'NOVOTEREP' surveys here on 'ARRSE'. The more who can do the survey, the better.

PM me please anytime for the link to the survey. Non-'ARRSE' people can email hackle@hotmail.co.uk . Please use the subject line 'SURVEY'.

    regards

  6. I'll be offline for a while, but anyone who would like the link to our online survey can get it from PartTimePongo the moderator of this forum. Bad CO has the link as well.

Anyone who does the survey is most welcome to pass the link to others who are eligible to take part - Regular, married to Regular, mobilised reservist. Including non-ARRSE. The only limitation is that at this stage we are not publishing the link on the web.
