One Hell of a Read...

#1 every sense of the term.. Long and involved, hard reading because of the mountains of information and the dread of the topic.. scary and grim.. makes Stephen King look like a comic book..

couldn't put it down, but had to stop and ' refresh ' before ploughing further..

but, if you're inot ' current events' and history in the making and the ripple effect of one ' small thing' on the fate of world affairs.. this is it..

THE TORTURE PAPERS: The Road to Abu Ghraib
edited by Karen J. Greenberg and Joshua L. dratel

Cambridge University Press 1249 pages [!] at at a price of $ 67.96 CAN its no small investment..

something in there to open eyes and send both the Left and the Right wailing into the night..
stunning read given that the First Anniversary of the ' Prison Scandal ' broke..[ my gawd has it been that fast already ?] is fast approaching..

there's also a small book out by Mark Danner [ good as a companion piece ] called Abu Ghraib: The Politics of Torture [ only 143 pages and $ 13.95 CAN ]..its not a story of ' bad apples' but of fateful political decisions taken/not taken...alert: it is very Bush critical [ i.e. his administration, not the man ]
