I've just received the service record of a late uncle.
One of the documents is his application to transfer from the RA where he was a GPO, to the RAOC as an 'Ordnance Mechanical Engineer'.
Is this something which would have made him a founding member of the REME when it came into existance?

He didn't, in the end, go down this route but trained as an AOP, which eventually got him killed.

Cheers, that's what I thought.

He must have been a founding member of the Sqn or close to being anyway? Pretty unlucky way to die poor bloke. Where did you get the war diary entry from, the AAC museum?

Not really, he was on course No: 35 in Sept 1944.
Prior to that he fought at El Alamein and the invasion of Scicily with 8th Army.
Originally a TA Sapper pre war, commissioned into RA in late 1940.
I got the War Diary from these knowledgable chaps:
AOP (Air Observation Post) Squadron Casualties - Page 6 - World War 2 Talk
Entry 53.
The AAC museum have not been helpful at all.
