OJAR Question

    I am in discussion with a Colleague about the OJAR form.

    The section on an OJAR were you describe your duties is used by whom; the 1st, 2nd and 3rd RO or for the Manning Authority.

    Any help gratefully received.

  3. The use of the section on the front page is not very well explained in the JSP. The best use of it that I have seen is that the 1RO gets the SO in at the start of the reporting period and gives him a job spec, a list of responsbilities and a set of objectives for the year. He agrees these with the SO. Ideally these should fit in the box on the first page, or at least be able to be summarised in it.

    At the MPAR point the 1RO reviews performance against the aforementioned front page and agrees any changes for the rest of the year. At end of year he writes the report against performance against the front page. Everyone knows where they stand, no surprises, fair system.

    What often happens in less well run organisations is that the SO fills in a few lines at the end of the year for the sake of it and the 1RO ignores them.
