The East of Suez B2’s will get more teeth.
Even the low end of a Bofors 40 Mk4 would be a very substantial upgrade.

if more teeth isnt needed, why will their 1 4 1 replacements be armed with far more firepower.

Do you mean the type 31?

Because ones a free gizzet due to contractual mandated work already paid for OPV and the others a frigate?

Well, if the free gizzet can do the job with just a 30mm, why the replacement need so much extra teeth to do the same job?

Perhaps it isnt
Perhaps the scope of the task will increase once a T31 is on station -

until then our River class stalks around bothering illigal fishermen- harrasing pirates but not venturing into areas where for example theres a gurt big T45 showing the flag and encouraging mischief makers to leave shipping alone -

A task that perhaps T31 takes over

It's exactly as @Lindermyer has said. The scope and capability will increase with the platforms. Meanwhile they will iron out alot of the simple issues and bugs that operating and supporting a ship full time in the far East which we haven't done in years.

The admiralty don't want an OPV with lots of fancy looking guns and missiles because then there is reason to cut something like the even more capable T31 as "hey you already have something that looks like a frigate". Which is again a step down from the full purchase of T26 they originally wanted. Money is tight and this is making the best of the hand that's been dealt. If you want to berate FLEET/1SL fairly there are plenty of stupid ideas to do so such as the stopping and half hearted restarting of the FSS contract.

except we are putting two B2 OPV’s permanently deployed in a very exciting part of the world 24/7/365 with no passing T45 to call on if they need some extra muscle.

well yes, but that all assumes the naughty people play along with our capability gap/holiday and don’t get rowdy.
We felt the need to put a gurt great 76 on the much smaller HK patrol boats to impress upon the locals we were a bit serious.

Are they ?

After all the oceans a big place - It would be perfectly possible to have a B2 east of Suez that stays out of 'sporty' waters.
In the same way that the FI guard ship doesnt need to be a Heavy cruiser since its mission doesnt involve ensuring shipping security off the Argentine coast

They are going a lot further East than Suez, try SEA/SCS and that region East.

As do all capability gaps. At least they are gaps not lost.

And we have plenty of ships knocking around the world with similar armaments. No one sank Albion or Enterprise on their jaunts around the far East. What are the threats you are worried about that can't be handled by a 30mm and FP weapons? If there is such a threat then it shouldn't be there.

And the Peacock Corvettes were procured for a specific task in a time we had a much bigger navy with no threat of them being used as replacements for actual frigates. I notice they weren't kept long after the loss of Hong Kong?

Define exciting? And why is it staying somewhere exciting? And what is a 40mm mk4 or 76mm going to bring to the party?
What the RN want.

What the RN will get once Babcock have skimmed off the cream of the cash.

BAE not Babcock for B2s.

I’m glad there is no air or missile threat East of Suez….
oh wait! They bolt Phalanx onto RFA’s going out east to deal with such non existent threats to not real warships.

We are talking Singapore to start with not the Gulf.

And even when they are going to the gulf they can join all the other ships that only have that level of armament such as;

RN MCMVs
USN MCMVs
MN MCMV
USN PBs
USGC PBs
An actual B1 upgraded river class OPV!

And we know of the threat in the gulf so we have UK/coalition assets to support them.

*Edit*

I'm also well aware of the threat in the having been there at state one air raid warning red believing such things were inbound. I really do get it.

Was the queue to change underwear meant the entire ships compliment had freshly Starched post laundry ;)

Pretty much! Certainly the more Bolshie members of the crew started taking all that "navy bollocks" such as anti-flash and action bags seriously!
