Its all a bit premature, and misguided if you ask me.

Mind you, he had some very stiff competition:

There were a record 205 nominations for this year's prize. Zimbabwe's prime minister and a Chinese dissident had been among the favourites.

US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel Committee said he was awarded it for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples".

The committee highlighted Mr Obama's efforts to strengthen international bodies and promote nuclear disarmament.

There were a record 205 nominations for this year's prize. Zimbabwe's prime minister and a Chinese dissident had been among the favourites.

The laureate - chosen by a five-member committee - wins a gold medal, a diploma and 10m Swedish kronor ($1.4m).

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Norwegian committee said as the prize was announced.

"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

I think the NPP is usually for the Lefty of the Year.

I have to say that it looks like he's been awarded it for being "very important while being at mostly non-white".

But that would be Tsvangirai rather than Mugabe (el Presidente) - who would have been getting it simply for not being Mugabe (while being black). A man who has also not done very much, not that he has had much choice - but that's for a different thread.

Another award being devalued, pretty soon it will mean as little as a New Labour Knighthood

The Nobel Peace Prize was actually won by a bouncer from Salford for successfully ejecting a covey of TV executives from a 'quaint local bar' without too much uniformed intervention.

Picking up the 2 million Euro prize, Mr Rob DeBeeb was heard to say 'Thissl keep the crew on the lash for a cupla days'

Well this shows just how w*nk the prize has become, in the same manner that many honours given out by the bucketfull to Labour lickspittles have become valueless.

FFS if they can give that cockney tosser cook the OBE, why shouldn't obama the semi white get an award.

Membership Has Its Privileges

"The Player's Club GoldCard is recognized everywhere -- even in hell! I redeemed my Players GoldPoints at Club Satan for an exciting eternity of getting pounded up the arrse. Thanks, NobelCo!"
-- Yasser Arafat (1994)

"Don't miss the boat like I did, comrade! I forgot to enroll, and now I'm spending eternity pounding Yasser Arafat up the arrse."
-- Le Duc Tho (1973)

A prize that holds zero meaning, and no respect from serious people any longer.
