Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hope you guys don't mind me advertising an even run by a 'rival' web forum - but we think it is in such a good cause that you'll forgive us!!

The "Once a Marine Always a Marine" web site is a forum for former and serving Royal Marines to keep in touch, share jokes and tall tales of former glories.

OAMAAM stage various ad-hoc charity and social events; in the last year £1700 was raised at a charity auction for the widow of a former Royal Marine who committed suicide as a result of PTSD and a further £2500 was raised for the Royal Marine Benevolent Fund by taking part in the Spean Bridge to Achnacarry Speed March.

While in Spean Bridge the OAMAAM team met a group from St Dunstan's (the charity for ex-service men and women who have significant loss of sight). The St Dunstaners had a profound impact on all those who took part and were truly inspirational and as a result it was decided to stage the "Once a Marine Always a Marine - Dartmoor Yomp".

The members of the ONCE A MARINE ALWAYS A MARINE web forum are extending an invitation to all injured service and ex-service personnel, who are undergoing or completed their rehabilitation, to join them in the DARTMOOR YOMP based around Princetown, Devon on the last weekend in September (26-28 Sept 08).

The main event on the Saturday will consist of a 12-mile walk across the southern part of Dartmoor utilising the bridleways and footpaths and is being designed to be accessible for all levels of physical ability. The walk will have multiple access points so that participants can either do the full 12 miles or shorter stages depending on their level of desire or ability. Volunteers have offered to provide horses and horse-drawn carts for those who would prefer to ride and the loan of some all-terrain wheelchairs is being investigated.

For those who do not wish to participate in the "Yomp" they will be more than welcome to join the social events. The main base for the event will be "The Plume of Feathers" in Princetown, which is well known to all users of the moor. There will be a reception on the Friday evening and on the Saturday evening there will be an informal social gathering at The Plume of Feathers with a hog roast.

Accommodation has been booked at the ‘Plume of Feathers’ – including B&B, Group Rooms, Bunk Houses – and pitches for 75 Tents and 10 Caravans.

The objective of the event is to give something back to those who have been injured in the course of their duty, to provide them with a physical challenge and also social events hosted by serving and former Royal Marines – not mention raise loads of money for Help for Heroes. If the "Dartmoor Yomp" is a success we hope to make this an annual outing.

If you'd like to participate or offer help: oamaam@btinternet.com

We'd like to stress that we're hoping to host members of ALL three services injured in the course of their duties - no matter where or when.

    Stay Safe
