SECURITY will be tight as 25,000 Muslims meet at a convention in Aldershot this weekend and police have warned they will not tolerate any anti-Islamic behaviour in the wake of the London terrorist attacks.

The Ahmadi Muslims will be holding their 39th Jalsa Salana festival at Rushmoor Arena, in Fleet Road, from Friday to Sunday.

The three-day convention is Britain’s biggest Islamic convention. But most Muslims, who say that the Ahmadi Muslims’ belief of a prophet arriving after Mohammed is blasphemy, reject the faction and have even said that they are banned from its holy sites.

Police have promised to work with organisers to ensure a safe weekend for everyone and have warned that “anyone foolish enough to be planning a threat to the convention will be dealt with robustly”.

A spokeswoman for Aldershot police station said: “We are working very closely with the organisers of Jalsa Salana to ensure that everyone can have a safe, secure and enjoyable convention.

“The association organising the convention is peaceful and are totally against acts of violence or terrorism of any kind.”

She added: “Hampshire as a force will not tolerate hate crime against anyone based on their race, religion, gender or sexuality.”
