Nostradamus wouldve been happy...

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. with this prediction...

Methinks I am a prophet new inspired
And thus expiring do foretell of him:
His rash fierce blaze of riot cannot last,
    For violent fires soon burn out themselves;
    Small showers last long, but sudden storms are short;
    He tires betimes that spurs too fast betimes;
With eager feeding food doth choke the feeder:
    Light vanity, insatiate cormorant,
Consuming means, soon preys upon itself.

This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
    This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,
This nurse, this teeming womb of royal kings,
Fear'd by their breed and famous by their birth,
Renowned for their deeds as far from home,
For Christian service and true chivalry,
As is the sepulchre in stubborn Jewry,
Of the world's ransom, blessed Mary's Son,
This land of such dear souls, this dear dear land,
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leased out, I die pronouncing it,
Like to a tenement or pelting farm:
England, bound in with the triumphant sea
Whose rocky shore beats back the envious siege
Of watery Neptune, is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds:
That England, that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.
Ah, would the scandal vanish with my life,
How happy then were my ensuing death!
  2. You're normal.
  3. All Nostradamus' work is about as vague as a fucking horoscope, narrowing down what is going to happen to 1/12th of the population. Bloody nonsense. Piss off and leave us alone.
  4. I am?

    "Stuck in the middle with..."

  5. Which brand of solvent are you sniffing??
  6. Besides which, what has Nostradamus got to do with Shakespeare?
  7. I'm not sure, I can't see the brand name (or the bell curve).
  8. The square root of f*ck all...

I just thought the quote was quite apposite given current events.
  9. You need help.

    Preferably from a vet.

Would you care to expand on your initial post or should we wait for a nurse to translate?
  10. Cheers TLF,
    to expand.

I found it mildly amusing that Shakespear's John of Gaunt speech had more resonance with current affairs than any of the purile nonsense spouted by Nostradamus.

Especially the "infection" and "is now leased out" lines.
  11. Mmm. Long Winter was it?

Are there any other literary works that you do the 'word search' on for amusement?

I'll bet you could find a prophecy in the phone book.

    Bundle of larfs you are....................
  12. [sense of humour] Post on NAAFI [/Sense of humour]

I found Mr Robert Sole in the phone book, he lives quite close.

  13. A very tenuous link to humour I guess but who am I to judge?

I'm sure the rest of the mob on here will give you marks out of ten. ;)
  14. Probably 0.001 but I'll get over it!

To be honest I was expecting the Mighty_D_N to jump (Fnarr) all over this post...
