Northern Rock - the Taxpayer funds Newcastle Utd

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Now that we own Northern Rock so to speak, should sponsorship of Newcastle Utd be withdrawn straight away?

Does it mean that every taxpayer (so thats you out of the running Sven) can have a say in how Newcastle is run?

Any ideas on improvements (apart from the board, players, and pies of course)

  2. The sponsorship deal was done with a lump sum payment some years ago apparently, so we're not anything to do with that bag of shite team thankfully

  3. It means that Kevin Keegan will have to go to the Chancellor, Alistair Dithering, before he can name the team. Of course Alistair Dithering will just burble, bluster and end up decisively sitting on the fence resulting in the team not being picked until the week after a game. He will then sell off the team to a Labour donor in exchange for a peerage, but still promising to pay all costs for another 5 years.

  4. Imagine if they used the same procurement system to by players that we did to by defense equipment. You can imagine the press announcement

"Newcastle to by Ronaldinho - in 2022"

  5. They are not the only NE sporting team to be sponsored by the Rock, try and dig out the deal involving Newcastle Falcons and Durham County Cricket clubs(not to mention Newcastle Eagles basketball) 8O

  6. Well, as a Sunderland supporter (S'land home of good football) I'm outraged

The irony, I suppose, is that it was a ton of Newcastle investors / customers who started the run on the bank in the first place.

  7. Well, at least Cad cannot complain that the government don't invest in the North East
