Nope, no need for an MPA, honest

The defence policies of this government and the previous one are an utter disgrace.

What does France use these days?

It's known as the Homer Simpson Defence Planning Assumption (very popular in MB in the last decade or so) - "why can't someone else do it?"

The FRA Navy flies Atlantique 2 MPAs; they are currently being modernised and a number of them have received MX-20 systems.

The Atlantique are also spending a lot of time as ISR platforms in the Sahel, over Iraq and in other places. During Op Serval in Mali they even were used as bombers, dropping GBU-12s.....

Are you seriously trying to suggest there was a policy? Give your head a wibble!
Agreed - "here's a very small bucket of money and I'm sorry about hole in bottom - just see what you can do!" is hardly a sound policy.

Heaven almighty, another one! What small bucket? With or without hole? ;)

Cheaper options are not really an option in ASW. If it ain't the best, you may as well not bother given the capabilities of modern Russian SSNs (and the PLAN are rapidly catching up).

However, watch this space :)
