No wonder 'hate crime' stats are on the up.

Just an aside but a hate 'incident' is not the same as hate 'crime'.

It worked when I got threatened by pikeys, I played the hate crime card before they did and got a result
I noticed that kind of justice is some Mediterranean countries , the first one to report a crime usually becomes the winner , rightly or wrongly , consequently it seems like a race to report people for fcuk all just to protect themselves , must keep the Rozzers as busy as hell.

Bottom of the same article.

Mystery of missing 900 special investigators
Scotland Yard has withdrawn claims it has 900 officers dedicated to investigating alleged hate crimes.

Met police chiefs were criticised for bragging about the resources during a surge in London murders.

One tweet boasted: ‘We have 900+ specialist officers dedicated to investigating all hate crime.’

All references have now been removed after the force admitted that while 900 detectives working with Community Safety and Safeguarding Units in each of London’s boroughs have had hate crime training, they devote most of their time to investigating domestic abuse.

It said: ‘We found a number of tweets gave the impression 900 officers were “dedicated” to the investigation of hate crime… This information was incorrect and at the first opportunity was removed.’
Oops.

Don't we have a charge of Wasting Police Time? OK, if your complaint turns out to be bullshit, you're up for Wasting Police Time. That will deter a lot of eejits.

Apparently it is entertaining mapping the geographic location of such complaints.

Often clustered around known "activists"

I disagree, but thanks for deigning to condescend.
Any time, I was a crime analyst for the police for 10 years, what's your field of expertise? Simple, don't be a dick to people, you don't like the prospect of being held to account for your dickishnes? Don't be a dick, simples*

*Terms and conditions apply "offender" and "offend" can both qualify as dicks at times, that doesn't mean the whole system of 'don't be a dick' should be abandoned because of a few extreme examples

I’m not quite sure what point you’re trying to make? My point was that back before the government tried to legislate for absolutely anything and everything in order to please god knows who and micro manage the forces of law and order, the police were more free to use professional judgment and decide when someone is, to borrow your parlance, being a dick or decide if an actual offence had taken place under the pre-existing laws. Despite the link in the OP being in the Mail, it seems that there are numerous examples of people being dicks on both sides of the complaint and the police being forced to act because of people using hate crime law for utterly specious reasons. Even politicians have fallen foul of this badly thought out piece of legislation.

......you don't understand that I'm pointing out that if people stop being dicks to others the number of reports will go down and that the Daily Mail is always looking for 'PC gone mad' stories to suit it's agenda and to pander to it's target audience of snowflake 'little Englanders'? Remarkable

@ivan_the_tolerable

I found politicians overjoyed at the appearance of the legislation. ie, wave Mr Angry's letter at the DPG Chief Super while voicing fear and anguish, all in the hopes of getting armed protection assigned and therefore no more waiting in queues. Fast lane to the VIP lounge at Heathrow and 1st Class travel, at the tax payers expense.

People have always been dicks, it's just recently that people have been so "upset", "traumatised" and "sensitive".

I once had a row with a dog owner about fouling, and he brought his beloved pet round to crap on my driveway every day for ages afterwards. It wasn’t hate crime, or the dog’s idea but I can see how these things happen.
