Nicola Sturgeon - whither the SNP

Is Sturgeon's time as First Minister of Scotland coming to an end

  • Yes - she is dooomed

    Votes: 120 47.4%
  • No - this is just a storm in a tea cup

    Votes: 24 9.5%
  • Don't know

    Votes: 35 13.8%
  • Don't care

    Votes: 74 29.2%

  • Total voters
    253
And no one is pointing it out.

Especially to me as I am duty Daft Lad. What is the lie?

Section 10
Clearly says that Wesminster has three choices-
1. Accept that Holyrood already has the legal right to run an independence referendum
2. Accept that Section 30 gives them the right to change the law to do the above if they haven't already got it
3. Westminster will have to take it to court to prevent the SNP implementing the above

Seeing as authority for an independence referendum is not a devolved matter all three of the above are lies

Sturgeon is clearly stating that Holyrood has the legal right to run a referendum and that Westminster would have to take legal action to prevent them
She then goes on to repeatedly state her and the SNP are seeking legal referendum and implies she does not need Westminster consent to do so.
At no point does she refer to a non binding advisory referendum. She contends that Holyrood can do so without Westminsters agreement

Its a lie. Holyrood or the SNP does not have the legal right to hold an independence referendum.

Mixing rabid Politics and servile Law Officers going as well as usual.

"The Lord Advocate himself, James Wolffe QC, will shortly make a public apology to the two men for having pursued a “malicious prosecution” against them “without probable cause”.

“Malicious”, note. Not just mistaken in law, or based on unreliable evidence, but acting with malice: with the intention of personally injuring two innocent citizens."

Without being political, I have been astonished at this “malicious prosecution” debacle and how little public attention it has been receiving.

I’ll give you an option 4 . It’s a modification of option 3. Get a member of the public to take them to court. Lessons can and have been learnt from the remain campaigns strategy.

The UK Government does not have to take it to court
An independence referendum is reserved to the UK Government. Thats why Sturgeon is trying to bait Boris on it, because she has absolutely no legal right to hold a referendum, it is not legal. She knows it.

She is a liar, the SNP Roadmap claims to hold the legal right to hold a referendum and insists it is up to the UK Government to prove her wrong. That simply is not true.
HMG does not have to take it to court, Holyrood does not have the legal ability to call a referendum and Section 30 does not allow them to change the law to do so

Boris/HMG has the absolute legal right to make the decision, Holyrood does not.
Sturgeon knows she is misleading but thinks she can make Boris carry the can.

So, in my innocence, why does HMG allow her to lie and get away with it?

Because it will be spun as the English telling the Jocks how to run their country.

But spinning doesn't cut it if it is first of all, illegal, and secondly, never going to happen. Or am I dense? (answers on a postcard please)

My post in the Scottish politics thread makes a point about numbers. To wit, an Independence referendum called by Holyrood and unsupported by the Unionists is a very serious gamble

Post in thread 'Scottish Politics Thread' https://www.arrse.co.uk/community/threads/scottish-politics-thread.226368/post-10545233

If the numbers fall wrong for the SNP the backlash could be fatal for various senior SNP figures and possibly the party.

If the SNP are foolish enough to go this way then Westminster should do everything to make sure this goes wrong.

From making sure the Electoral Commission does not rule on the question asked, making sure no party political broadcasts are made, refusing access to the normal voting locations and billing the SNP directly for everything.

PS The same search with Sturgeon instead of Salmond yields no picture.

SNP are great at creating grievance.

Merely highlighting that should at any point Sturegon et al decide to play funny buggers in order to get a ride from
Boris, instead of Westminster getting involved to feed the flames of victim hood that the SNP thrives on, then a member of the public can step in a la Gina Miller.

Ignore the genocide bit, but this is the SNPs modus operandi.
