Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. This is disgusting:

GBH doctor suspended for a year

A doctor who beat a paramedic into a coma has been suspended by the General Medical Council (GMC) for 12 months.
Nik Mann was told his assault on Stephen Mason in Nuneaton, Warks, in August 2006 was contrary to the aims and ideals of the medical profession.

But the fitness to practice panel said it was not in the public interest to strike off Mann.

He was told to do 200 hours' community service after admitting grievous bodily harm at Warwick Crown Court last June.

Former soldier Jake Roe, of Polesworth, also admitted the same offence and was told to complete the same punishment.

    'Deeply remorseful'

Their trial heard Mann and Roe had been drinking and had beaten Mr Mason after claiming he had hit Mann's fiancee.

But the GMC hearing was told several doctors had given references for Mann, saying his attack was out of character.

His lawyer told the hearing Mann was "deeply remorseful" for the "indefensible" attack.

Mr Mason, who was in a coma for 12 hours and off work for nearly four months after the attack, said he was "infuriated" by the GMC's decision.

He said: "(Mann's) been to A&E before, he's had people come up to him who've been assaulted and had to treat them and he came back to the scene after I was knocked out and further stamped on my head.

"How can someone do that? How can someone be given a trustworthy job as a doctor or as a GP?

"It just infuriates me. If he's done it once, he'll probably do it again."

Mann will be assessed by the GMC panel before he is allowed back on the register.

  2. Done for GBH

    Stamped on head while unconscious

But a few Doctor colleagues suggest it was out of character........................

Don't HPC types have to be CRB'd

On top of that he looks like a riught fat cnut
  3. Hmm, he seems to have forgotten the bit of the Oath that says first do no harm.
  4. And made a mistake when someone hit his missus.
  5. Look where drinking with squaddies get you! hehehe
  6. "Hit his missus" ?

Patently didn't count for much of a defence. Did the comatose chap get charged for "hitting his missus" no didn't think so
  7. First do no harm isn;t actually in the oath, but hell...

Obviously he's a cnut who gives the medical profesion a bad name at a time when we are hated enough anyway, but the coverage seems a bit over the top. This stuff happens in every city every day, but this case made the newspapers simply because he's a doctor. Why is that so much worse? Its not like he was drunk on duty.
  8. Its the Boys club that is the GMC which is the issue. If it was a paramedic, nurse, physio etc I doubt the outcome would have been the same
  9. I disagree that the GMC is dodgy. The GMC jumps on guys pretty quickly if a patient complains. In this case they have to determine whether the attack affects his ability to practise. The references show that it doesn't as its out of character for him (it probably isn;t, but thats what his mates say). The same thing would be acceptable in any regulatory body, not just the GMC.

The one you need to watch out for is the BMA not the GMC. It sounds respectable but its actually a trade union. Even I don't like it, and it represents me.
  10. The issue here is not the GMC allowing him to practice. The issue is the courts letting him off with community service for stamping on the head of an unconscious man when his medical training would mean it was perfectly clear to him what the possible consequences of such a violent act were.

He's GMC not HBC and the answer is no.
Mrs Baldy is registered with HPC and has never been CRB'd. An employer of someone on the register may require it but as she is self employed.......
  12. Plus he is a fat, smug cnut and Id like to punch him in the throat just for that alone.
  13. JU - please observe the translation of the oath:

I swear by Apollo, Asclepius, Hygieia, and Panacea, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses, to keep according to my ability and my judgment, the following Oath.
To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art; to live in common with him and, if necessary, to share my goods with him; To look upon his children as my own brothers, to teach them this art.

I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.

To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death.

Nor will I give a woman a pessary to procure abortion.

But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts.

I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by practitioners, specialists in this art.

In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction and especially from the pleasures of love with women or with men, be they free or slaves.

All that may come to my knowledge in the exercise of my profession or in daily commerce with men, which ought not to be spread abroad, I will keep secret and will never reveal.

If I keep this oath faithfully, may I enjoy my life and practice my art, respected by all men and in all times; but if I swerve from it or violate it, may the reverse be my lot.

Never do harm, first do no harm...there is not a lot of difference in the sense of the oath is there?
