Ministry of Defence said:
Speaking after his meeting with Youssef Amrani, Moroccan Minister-Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Co-operation, FCO Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt said:
“I held a valuable meeting today with Moroccan Minister-Delegate, Youssef Amrani, reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship between the UK and Morocco. We discussed the situation in the region and the recent terrible events in Algeria, which are of great concern to both our Governments. We committed to continue to work together, in the UN and with regional partners, to address the serious threat that terrorist groups pose to the countries and peoples of the region, and across the world.
“We also discussed working closely together on our shared priorities on prosperity and how we can work with Morocco to build opportunities in trade and investment. We are supporting Morocco’s political and economic reforms through the UK Arab Partnership Fund. The projects supported will help advance the Moroccan government’s efforts to tackle corruption and to further political participation for civil society, women, youth and the media. We are working with the EU and with International Financial Institutions to support Morocco’s economic priorities. And we will use our G8 Presidency to work with Morocco and the other transition countries in the Deauville Partnership to assist the political, social and economic transition that is already underway in the region.”
