Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1.
  2. One step closer then.

  3. 1,300 troops from 16 Air Assault Brigade, the British Army’s rapid reaction force, and 300 French troops from the 11th Parachute Brigade arrived by air in the West Freugh area of Scotland.
The exercise scenario tasked them with stabilising an area disputed by 2 fictional nations divided by economic and ethnic factors.

A task they presumably carried out to the Ex Director's satisfaction.

...if it were only that simple in real life. Of course, they couldn't use scenarios from Iraq or Afghan because the blue forces couldn't win and be home in time for tea and medals.

I assume the jumping out of aeroplanes bit went OK.

  4. Interesting sideburn competition going on in the first pic....

  6. Not shouting, couldn't remove the bold/italic function. Don't the red-dyed cowplops on the Frog's heads look divine ? But they'll need more overhang in the Scottish rain

  7. Also "Who can have their badge as far away from their left eye" competition. The Brits going for the left ear, with the French going for the half way between right eye & ear option.

  8. Even more so now that the "casquette Bigeard" is no longer issued...I supposed the sight of this hideous but prestigious cap hurt the feelings of some ethnic minorities whose grandfathers kept somewhat brutal memories of those who wore it in the late 50s and early 60s...

  12. For a few things, you can trust the gendarmerie.

Ridiculous hats are one of those.

  13. Blimey, there's some sartorial horrors in that first pic. Odd how les Chasseurs Alpins take it to the other extreme: large with fries.

  14. If you think the Chasseurs Alpins berets are ridiculous, with the IDF, you've got something else coming.....it's like they are on a mission to find the worst possible way to wear a beret.

Not to mention their choice of colours.....
