News from India

China is a fundamentally different country with a different type of political structure. It is a centralized country where the central authority has the absolute power and the common masses has little say in day to day affairs.

China type model is good for short time success but on a long scale it would prove to be counterproductive.

India cannot comprise on it's federalism and it's division of powers, people have the right to protest the government's action and has the right to kick the ruling party out of power if they are dissatisfied.

Look at Dharavi ?

It's only a slum in name,it's an industrial hub that produces a whopping economy of a billion dollars .Even then a lot of slum dwellers are now being relocated to apartments.
Yet this billion dollar slum has 5,000 cases of typhoid and other diseases a day. The people being moved to apartments is actually detrimental to the economy as they can now be taxed as the government now has records as to who’s there. Also they can’t work there such as the pottery industry can’t have their kilns. That programme is worse for Dharavi. The one I agree with is the government talking to elders about what they want the money invested in.
There’s too many things to count when it comes to Dharavi which shows that it’s a slum, if you want I can dig out my geography coursework on it and recount some facts we got from a documentary where someone went to stay in Dharavi for several weeks and other sources

History tells otherwise.......

A look at India's economic performance from 1757 to 1947 reveals the grim picture of mass starvation, rise in poverty and communal flare ups,low levels of literacy and non existent healthcare and infrastructure.

Had the British ruled today, India wouldn't have been much different from Somalia.
India didn't exist in 1757 you mong.

A GDP of $1,200 per person & you call it a "whopping economy"?

Was Dianne Abbot your economics teacher?

1 public toilet per 500 people, each person has on average 25square foot of living space and on average earn just over $3 dollars a day yet people call it an economic powerhouse as some millionaires have businesses there so they don’t have to pay tax

It is interesting to compare and contrast the comment from Priyanka Churvedi, a former Congress spokesperson:
“This country is extremely aspirational,” she said. “It has a majority population [younger] than 35. They are grateful to freedom fighters but they do not want to be taken back there. They want to know what is in store for them in the future.”
With dear old Earth who bitterly resents the Raj and always wants to drag things back to the past.

Modi also disagrees with Earth:
Jawaharlal Nehru, Gandhi’s great-grandfather, fiercely opposed Hindu nationalism and sought to establish India as a secular country, a vision the modern party continues to uphold.
Under Modi, the staunchest Hindu nationalist ever to occupy the office, that tradition has been recast as a long national nightmare, blaming it even for the breakup of the subcontinent.
“It is in your character that the division of India happened,” Modi told Gandhi in parliament in February.
“The country was broken into pieces and you sowed the poison. After 70 years of independence, not a day passed when the 125 crore [1.25 billion] Indians do not get punished for your sins.”

Rahul Gandhi loses his seat in Congress party landslide defeat

I agree. This is why I say that India should have either been given dominion-staus or remain part of the empire. The British empire wasn't perfect but wasn't too bad either.
Nothing would have stopped India from getting complete independence....Had the British stayed a little more, they would have been slaughtered not just by the enraged masses but by the Indian Army,Airforce and Navy who by the end of the war had started a mutiny. The Union jack was torn down and replaced with the Indian flag.

After WWI if the Raj delivered it's promise of delegating more power to the Indians then there would not have been a Quit India movement in 1942, nor a naval mutiny in 1946.

The British intention in India was never to help or aid the people of India, rather use India's resources for serving their own interest.Their entire economic and social policies right from the beginning till the end speaks volumes on this.

Haaahaaaahaaaa.....

India no longer world's fastest-growing economy

What a shit country. What a shit PM. One day one the job and he sends their economy into the toilet. Which is ironic because finding one is pretty difficult. I suppose we ought to say one day on the job and he sends their economy into the streets for accuracy.

What a nob.

They haven't been the fastest growing economy for years: the official numbers bear as much closeness to reality as @John G 's stories and expertise.

in which world is a 5.8% GDP growth rate is tantamount to shit economy ?

Even with this temporary quarterly setback ,India is still one of the fastest growing economy.

India will bounce back in the next quarter and the overall economic growth rate for the entire year would still reach a 7%.

Listen to yourself!

The only thing that bounces in India are the turds when they hit the pavement (and cheques obviously).

What makes you think it will bounce back?
