If you ban it it just goes underground and then you can't manage it..... plus loose the tax.
Nanny state/ virtue signaling. NZ already restricts sales of tobacco products to only 18 and above, and I'm sure taxes the hell out of them to recover the health care costs expended by the state for those smokers who develop cancer and/or breathing problems later in life. What more do the "do-gooders" expect? Too much government interference in my view and if this gets passed into legislation, their children will be running fags from Australia on cigarette boats and there'll be smoking room speak easies in Wellington and Auckland in the 2080s, just like in Chicago and New York in the 1920s when the US tried to ban alcohol with a constitutional amendment. The only thing the total ban on alcohol did for the US is that it strengthened Organized Crime. People still want to drink, and they'll get it from whoever has it. The same thing applies to smokes.
They tried but it got shot down in a referendum. Once the dust settled the point became apparent that what would be a recreational drug in some circles would just be adding to the social, economic and health issues that alcohol and smoking are already causing. They have jacked up the cost of cigarettes a lot here in the past thinking that will stop people smoking but forgot people are creatures of habit. What about de weed though? will, that be made legal as in Canada (two countries trying to out woke each other). How long before this one is imported into UK? Hang on a mo, is not a fag in her gob a mark of Raynor's working class credentials?
Mind you, they're going to have to grow less weed to make space for it!
