    Hello out there

im part of the SRRT and RRT at my regiment and squadron, and we have just gone on to this new style recruiting package that has been thought up by brigade. Now im not having a go at the blokes doing the training, but i had a new recruit in today and i had to tell him that his official training won't start till Mar 07, where as on the old system i would expect to have him on his cadre/CMSR by then. Now we do a lot of training in house but are always getting our knuckles wrapped for doing to much. The bloke was not impresssed and to be honest i will be amazed if i see him again.

Any body out there got any thoughts on the new system or any ways that i can circumnavigate it.

I think this neatly encapsulates all that is wrong with giving the regular army a greater say in TA recruiting.

Until some grown-ups somewhere realise that the TA needs soldiers a lot more than young people need the TA, we will continue with such a charade.

You probably won't see him again. Is there any other part-time organisation / club which treats its future members like this?

  3. Does anybody think that the Army's recruitment upper age limit of 30 should be raised, particularly considering the shortage of new recruits?

I am 33 and I would join the army tomorrow if I could. I should have joined when I was 18 or 19 but decided to party full-time instead, then university (I don't want to be a Rupert, though).

Is it accepted wisdom that men over 30 who are new to combat can't cut it in the field? Does it make sense to say that as long as a recruit can display the necessary standards in selection and basic training he should be allowed to join the army?

Now, of course the British Army would be my first choice but this option appears closed so I am training to undergo selection in the Foreign Legion. Any opinions on the FFL?

17 – 32 on joining. If under 18, you will need your parents’ permission. There are some exceptions for people over the age of 32 if you have certain specialist skills or previous military experience. "

  5. Is this why at my interview I was told they needed to get back to me to figure out when I would be starting? All I managed to make out was 'it's either now or next year but we need to check with Edinburgh to see if we can do it now...'. I left wondering when exactly I was supposed to be joining and what they thought I wanted to do.

Luckily for me it was sorted pretty quickly and I didn't have to wait until next year :)

By his "official training" do you mean his two week CMSR at an ATR? If so perhaps you should've explained that he will have to go through a Selection weekend as well as 6 training weekends which should take him neatly up to next March.

If you do indeed mean that he will not be able to start his 6 training weekends till next March, well then I guess finally found someone with a worse recruit training cycle than ours!

    Good luck with it mate.

How many people are going to need a new medical because their's has run out in the six months between now and March next year?

But what about those who have just completed their 6 weekends?

Most likely the majority of them, but as long you're on top of it arranging another medical is the least of the embuggerances. In fact it happened quite a few times under the old system too due to cancelled courses etc.

I don't understand what you're asking. Do you mean, 'Are those with only the their 2 week course left to, stuck with FA to do till next March?' then the answer may look like 'Yes'. As dire as that is there is a worse scenario and one that may actually become a reality. I have been informed that if the two week CMSR 1c is not attended within 5 weeks of completing the last of the CMSR 1b weekends, all of those weekends will have to be repeated.

Don't know how much truth and/or inflexibility there is in this, but I was knocked for 6. Fully expect this to be declared as unworkable after a couple months of pain and anguish (and a few recruits lost) and a revised plan devised.

There's nothing wrong with Regs running these courses, but for it to work there needs to be a course being every damned weekend or people will just not progress through it.
  12. recruit!
    recruit more!
    why aren't you recruiting enough?
well done, cut your mtd's as we don't have enough budget for your establishment.
    etc ad infinitum.

  13. I have heard that the grown-ups are thinking of imposing a maximum two-month gap between completing Phase 1 and starting Phase 2; the penalty is having to repeat Phase 1. I expressed my misgivings to the reg who told me this and his genuinely puzzled response was 'why can't you just order them to turn up?'
  14.

    Hello all

    thanks for the feedback.

sorry i was frustrated when i wrote my last input i will clarify. Currently i have approx 20 new out of the box recruits. approx 6 start the new recruiting cycle in nov, having been with us since aug, (first course we could get them on) this is phase ic.

the next group luckily got on one in jan. and the reamining seven the earliest we can get them to start phase 1c is march as all the courses are booked up.

Then they need to do there CMSR.

ON the old system i could get them though weekends 1-3 by end of Jan and be looking fro cmsr courses from Feb.

and yes if they miss a phase they have to wait for the next one to catch up.

Im just a bit miffed, yes it will show their commitment, but even i can't do all the weekends, and I'm nearing a 100 mtd's.
