New smart call service from Virgin mobile using WiFi oversea's

As part of our continuing drive to grow our home phone and mobile business, today, we’re unveiling SmartCall, an innovative smartphone WiFi app that removes the boundaries between landline and mobile calling – dramatically improving the value of our home phone service.

We’re always looking at new ways to give our customers a bit more – more value, more freedom, more choice. That’s why we’re all so excited about SmartCall, the UK’s first WiFi calling service, which will allow customers to use their home phone talk plan on their smartphone, at no extra cost.

[TD]Virgin Media customers will be able to use the unlimited calls from their home phone talk plan on their smartphone – whether at home, at a friend’s, or even abroad. As long as there’s a WiFi connection, SmartCall will give people the freedom to use their Virgin Home Phone inclusive calls on smartphones, regardless of wherever they are and no matter which mobile operator they use. The intuitive app will automatically detect whether a SmartCall is possible and whether that call is included in their home phone talk plan. This even includes phoning the UK from abroad, so holidaymakers could wave au revoir to the shock of roaming call charges or hefty hotel phone bills.

Blurring the boundaries
SmartCall is a great example of how converged technology can make our lives easier - two different technologies working together to blur the distinction between staying connected in and out of the home. And as the first UK operator to remove the problem of which phone to use, we’re best placed to provide the greatest value converged telephone services, as we look for more ways to give our customers more.

And to help customers get even more value from their existing home phone plans we have just introduced a new talk plan which for the first time in the UK will include unlimited calls to UK mobiles (Talk Unlimited Extra available from 1st November). Combined with SmartCall the new plan will help customers make considerable savings and get even greater value from their phones.

So when’s it available?
We’ve already completed an extensive trial of SmartCall which showed strong interest from customers and after further technical and customer trials in the coming weeks we’ll make it available to all cable Virgin Media Phone customers in early 2013.

We expect customers will be keen to start making savings with SmartCall, so we’ve set up a special website where they can register their interest and keep informed about when this amazing new WiFi app will be available.
